12 bolt brakes

I just got a moser 12 bolt for my 92 firebird and I was hoping to use my factory disc brakes but the bolt pattern does not match the new rear. Does anyone know if someone out there sells the brackets for this combination? Maybe I should just pick up an 93-97 setup or something. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: 12 bolt brakes

Depends on which brakes you have, and which bolt pattern your new rear has, and in what way your stuff doesn't fit the rear.

IF you have the OE '92 10-bolt rear end, the car will be equipped with alum PBR calipers. This braking system (89-92) is virtually the same as the 93-97 version.

Re: 12 bolt brakes

The new rear has an even rectangular pattern and the 10 bolt is uneven, the bottom bolts are closer together then the top. I am thinking I will just have to make a bracket or something. Do the 93-97 cars have a 12 bolt or a 10 bolt?

Re: 12 bolt brakes

if you bought the rear new from moser, i'm sure they will tell you which brakes it was set up for....i was recently talking with them about ordering a rear for my own car.....they can send it out for stock ( PBR) brakes or "other kinds".............how was it ordered?

Re: 12 bolt brakes

I am checking on how it was ordered now. It was supposed to be ordered to fit my stock brakes.

Do the 98-02 cars have a 12 bolt? Also, Do you know what PBR brakes come with mounting brackets?

Thanks!

No. In 89, 9-bolts were equipped with PBR's along with the appropriate backing plates. 90-97's were 10-bolts with the appropriate backing plates. 9- and 10-bolt axles have different bolt patterns, so the plates really aren't interchangeable.

Re: 12 bolt brakes

well i haven't tried it out yet, BUT my local camaro expert told me that the PBR calipers from 89 ( which i have) are supposed to be the same bolt pattern as the later ( 90's) aluminum calipers.....at some point i'll find out for sure....if they don't fit, then i'll just buy a set of 4th gen rear brakes...

Re: 12 bolt brakes

Does anyone know the 9 bolt pattern? On first glance at hawks it looks like a square pattern.

89-97 PBR's are virtually the same. All will bolt to the 9- and 10-bolt backing plates, but the plates themselves are axle specific.

Check post #21 and #22 for pics of the two and their bolt patterns:

Re: 12 bolt brakes

the brakes from 89-97 are mostly the same.
the 9bolt rear in 89 has a diff bracket bolt pattern than the 10bolts do 4the bracket to mount the caliper.
All you need are 2 newer brackets. Or get a drill and redrill some holes on your 9bolt bracket, which is what I did.

Re: 12 bolt brakes

Both plates are available after market:

http://andyz28.com/3rdGen/reardisc.html

http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/brakecalipers.aspx

Check this site for more info: http://www.flynbye.com/index.html

Since I'm **** in such matters, I'd prefer purchasing the correct plates rather than modifying something to fit. But each to his own.

Re: 12 bolt brakes

Im kindo the same way but some of the brakets Ive seen over the yrs have a few diff hole patterns to help reduce part#s and inventory.
