Goodridge G-stop brake line question.

Looking to replace the stock lines with quality parts. I currently will be running stock sized calipers and rotors/pads.

I went to Stillens and came upon these...

http://www.stillen.com/product/brake...252-38323.html

Its a model 12252 for the 1984-1988 firebird/camaro

Then I went to Tire Rack and saw these...

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...4&autoModClar=

Its a model 12253 and it came up during my search....
but it comes up as a "Performance Brakes" option...What the heck does that mean?

From what I know, there were no 1LE or Special Performance disc brakes as an option during the 1984 model year..

Called the rep at Tire Rack and he doesn't know the difference, called the rep at Stillens and he wasn't sure but had a "hunch" that its the 12252 (w/out performance brakes option)

So my question(s) are:

1) Were there any "Special Performance" brake options for 1984 F-body's?

2) Which part # should I get 12252 or 12253?

Help!
Chuck

Re: Goodridge G-stop brake line question.

How many rubber lines do you have? Thats the question. I have 5. 2 in front 2 for each rear caliper and on off the main line to the rear that is the splitter. Performance brakes may mean 4 wheel disc. There come in either 3 or 5 line kits. I habe the goodridge kit , better than any kit out there. If your still stumped call goodridge, they have a tech line.

I think the performance brake option actually mean 1LE, which uses different fittings.

I bought the Goodridge stainless brake line kit for my 1988 IROC with rear disks and it has two hoses for the front and three for the rear.

The quality is great and I love them.

How did you like the fact goodridge still sells that kit with the wrong pitch banjo bolts for the aussie pbr calipers. Called and they sent out the correct ones. On an 84 if you have drums you will need the three hose kit.

Mine fitted perfectly. You just need to be careful and specify the correct model.

Re: Goodridge G-stop brake line question.

I have 4 wheel disc brakes and I know for absolute certainty that they are not 1LE unfortunately....

Did the Camaro have a special braking performance package from 1984 to 1989? I thought the 1LE's didnt come out until 1989

Re: Goodridge G-stop brake line question.

The 1LE package came out in 1988. Only 4 Camaros came with it. Not many Firebirds had it either.

I tried looking up 1988 brake lines on Stillen's site. The result being regular 4 disc cars are #12252. While the 1LE cars are #12253...........My car ('89 with regular 4 disc setup) is a #12254. (different rear brakes compared to the 1988 model)

The trick is to look at the what years each fits what on the Stillen site and remember it's an "and/or" deal when dealing with the 1LE option.

#12253 = 1985-1988 cars with performance braking package....But the performance braking package is only on the 1LE cars, which only started in 1988. This is no good for you.

#12252 = 1984-1988 cars without performance braking package. So every car with 4 discs without 1LE (essentially all of them except for the 4 Camaros in '88). This is the one you want.

Re: Goodridge G-stop brake line question.

I think auto parts stores have contributed to the confusion. All 82-92 cars with four wheel discs, regardless of the type (standard or 1LE/PBR), are RPO J65. Purchasing decisions are made more difficult because of the 'performance or 1LE designation,' which as Reid points out, is only for the 88/89-92 cars (alum PBR calipers and 11.7" rotors). Standard J65 brakes (iron Delco-Moraine calipers with 10.5" rotors) came on 82 to nearly all 88 cars.
