Parking brake does not hold

I have done a diff swap on my 1990 rs drum brakes to a 1989 IROC G92 9 bolt BW 3.42 with discs. I have gotten the cables for the 1989 car and tried them but they seem too long maybe or something isn't right. When I pull the lever it can only be pulled about half way and is really hard to pull. When I pull it as far as I can it still doesn't hold the car on the slightest incline. Anyone know whats going on here?

Thanks
Matt

82-89 cars have a tunnel-mounted adjuster, while the 90+ are self-adjusting. IIRC, members who tried the swap you mention also swapped the tunnel-mounted adjuster into their cars. My swap into an 85 IROC required the first-design cable, 1460mm.

BTW, for best brake performance, swap in the correct combination valve.

Re: Parking brake does not hold

The Delco rear brakes also require retrofitting with the recall kit in order to function correctly. If they've been non-functional for a while, the pistons are apt to seize in the cylinders. This is a common problem with them.

True. The 89, however, "should" have PBR's.

Ok thanks for the info. So if I get the tunnel adjuster with the 89 cables I should be good to go? And I did do the valve swap with the diff as well.
