The 12" sub that i am looking at requires 1.5ft^3 of space. It is the pioneer IMPP 12" 450W max, 150W rms. How is this sub? Counld i build a box for the area in the very bottom of the hatch? It would be in the area that is 31" wide, 12" long, and 8" deep. Would that odd shape work ok? That calculates to 1.7 ft^3. Is the rule, the more space the better? Also where can I find the dark gray carpet to match the interior?

I need space in the back for 2 golf bags thats why I am considering this. Also where can I find a strong enough grill to support a golf bag on it?

Come on someone has to have done this before. Someone has to know if this will work.

I have that sub (see sig). I like it a lot. I had an MTX Thunder 3000 and I have to say that the Pioneer sounds A LOT better.

I have it in the rear storage well in a truck box that only measures ~.85 cu.ft. I know that's REALLY small, but I wanted a really small, light box so I can take it out if I want to.

Even with that small box, it sounds very good. It's got quite a bit of low bass, albeit not as much as it should. But I also have an 11 band EQ to balance out the sound so it doesn't sound so BOOMY.

The main reason I bought it was thanks to Sears. They had that sub on display, and I really liked the way it sounded in there compared to the others they had. IMO, it sounded the 'smoothest'.

I don't think you'll be upset. I've done exactly what they say not to do and I'm completely happy with it.

BTW, a box can vary ~10% in volume (size) and it will be fine for the recommended encloser size.

Believe it or not wal mart has them for $60. So it sounds like I will like it.

I did buy mine from Sears, along with the 1 yr. replacement warranty. Cost me about $90 for both w/tax. I'm glad I did though. I was a little to hard on that sub after it had been sitting in my car for 8 hrs on a +95* day. After about 5 min. of bumpin', it stopped humpin'.

I went to Sears, unscrewed it, walked in with a blown sub, walked out with a new one. And I didn't even have my receipt with me. I love stores with computers.

ok, i've done it before . i built a custom box for my type-r 12 that fits almost perfectly in the bottom half of the well. you must also take into account that the mdf will take up a bit o space, so it kinda makes the size a little over 1.0 cu ft, unless you like to do lots of angles and whatnot. unfortunately, i havent really taken any measurements of the box (people were bugging me to do it before, sorry guys). you can get more space outta it, but i was content with what i got.

i got 0.75 with 1" MDF, all right angles..

My friend popped two of those right in a row with a MTX Thunder280. It sounded good well it lasted, just be careful not to over power it.

I'm using 3/4 inch MDF, form fitting, not right angles.
