10s faster than 12s... want a lil input

ok... Jimbo's reply to this post: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...light=10+vs+12 led me to believe that 10's are not quicker than 12s, which is the first time ive ever heard it ever since everyone tells me to get 10s because i like a lot of metal that has those double bass drum kicks over and over and really fast beats that "12s cant handle as well as a 10"... i just want a little input or opinions, since i am crossed between two rockford 10" HX2s, or two 12" hx2s... since i listen to metal i want to be able to hear the double drum kicks and crazy bass output on some of those songs... but at the same time, i listen to a lot of techno which has a lot of punchier bass almost like rap.

im looking for a mixture of SQ and SPL, but more on the SQ side, i want punchy bass i can feel at the same time... any harder rock/metal fans here with subs?

they will be powered by a high quality amp giving each 500 watts each, in a sealed enclosure, and i know install is 90% so i qont skip on that hehe

I understand jim as saying that also. So I would think that if space wasnt really an issue 12's would be better. I listen to metal also and i have listened to my cd's through 10's and 12's and i dont know if it was the quallity or what but the 12's where much better than the 10's.

It's not a case of one being better. As usual, it boils down to personal preference. Some people like the "faster" sound of the 10s, some people like the sound of the 12s better. Neither is right or wrong. That other post was more or less just to dispell the myth of 10s being "faster". That's crap. If a 10" and 12" sub can both play a 200hz signal, they are sure as hell both fast enough to play a 50hz signal equally. It's output capability in the lower octave and not much else that makes them sound different.

I believe it is possible to have 2 10's be faster than 2 12's. But only in this case. The 10's have a magnet, pretty big rite? Rite. The 12's have a magnet, even bigger rite? Rite. The 12's would only be slower if they werer using the "10's magnets". Its almost like a power to weight ratio type of thing. Big strong magnet, the more, and quicker it will repel it, and attract for that matter.

Go for the 12's, end of story!!!

A magnet on a speaker, no matter what size is used as force for the speaker. Size of the magnet is sometimes has the mis-conception that it will perform better if it has a HUGE magnet. Wrong.
As long as a speaker is proper designed, it doesn't need an over abundance of magnet mass.
Take some manufactures, the magnet is the same on the 10" as the 12"...so which would sound better?
The 10" would sound good, and the 12" would go a tad lower. And, the 12" would have the cone advantage, and that's about it.

I'm just interested in somthing, what type of Metal is it that you listen to? Just so that I can get an idea of exactly what it is that your speakers are gonna get put through. I mean is it Hellhammer DBL Bass, or etc etc. Always wanted to know that when ppl say "I listen to Metal". Its just to broad a spectrum to understand what your gonna listen to.

some death metal... like Morbid Angel, and some of the calmer stuff too, but one song that sticks in my head.. Summoning Redemption by morbid angel has a very quick quick beat with a lot of bass. its too early for me to think of more songs lol the double bass on the song is incredible, haha

Gotta love Morbid Angel I remember getting there Gateways To Anihilation CD, and on the way home stoping in at one of the car audio specialty shops and poping the cd in using the best hardware they had, turned on Secured Limitations (The song where Trey does the black metal vox) and almost crapping my pants, heh, after that I ran out to my car and got an Iniquity CD, poped that baby in..... Heart skipped at least 5 beats, got the wind knocked outta me and soiled my drawers right there (Well, not literally but you get the idea) After that I decided that it was time to get myself some subs, so far I'm looking at a Rockfor Fosgate 500W Amp, and 2 Infinity 12"s, in a box made by REZN8R. That coupled with the rest of the system should emulate the effects felt in the car audio store on a daily basis Or at least one would hope.

Now.... to get more pairs of pants....

I dunno, it sounded logical tho.

rock isnt the only thing i listen to, im really a fan of oldschool hip hop too, the rappers that arent around nemore from the 80s and early 90s, and a lot of them people never heard of, when hip hop was good... without all this new crap out there now, oldschool where u dont find this joke of a business with bling bling and cash money, 20 inch dubs.

ive always listened to 2pac, and i still do, just waitin for him to come back in 2003 i have an open mind for music.
