I was looking at the cost of MP3 players, and decided they're definitely not worth the money. Also I have a IPAQ Pocket PC that plays MP3s. Any clue as to how I might adapt it so I can play it through the car stereo? Do any car stereos have such a receiver fxn? If the Pocket Pc won't work, what about just using a laptop MP3 player? I have an extra computer I use solely as a MP3 player for my home stereo...

I'm assuming you have a headphone jack on that thing. As far as I know, there isn't really any way to directly connect it to the headunit. Here is one idea to try though. Get one of those fm modulators that you'd use if you were running a discman. Go ahead and set it to a station on your radio. Once you have that done, go ahead and like superglue the **** or something, so you won't have to freak with it again. Then wire it on to the electrical system, and hide it under your console or something.

what stereo do you got?...i know with mine when i wanted to hook up the nintendo the shop i deal with sold me a jack that hooks up to the cd changer input and turned it to an rca input ..if you get somthing like that then you just need the headphone to rca jack at radioshack and your done

 

I got my girlfriend an AIWA deck a few years ago and it has a small RCA plug (size of a head phone jack) on the face. It is used foy you want to plus in a portabal tape player or Mini Disk player. You can hook up a portable MP3 player or your Pcket Pc w/ the head phone jack to that and there you go, Or just spend $300 and get a MP3 player deck, That would be alot easier.

Or get a deck that as aux input jack in the back and run a cable under the dash, and hook you pocket pc to that.

I don't know much about MP3 decks, but I'm looking for a way to hook up my Pocket PC or laptop b/c I have about 700 MP3s stored. That way I can just hookup, load a playlist, and go. No need to fumble w/ discs or anything. The PocketPC unit does have a headphone jack. What is an "FM modulator?" Is that the thing that comes with the universal CD changer setups? If so, can one be purchased separately?

BTW the deck I'm running right now is a Pioneer unit that is about 8 yrs old and the CD part of it doesn't work. But if it has a changer feature on it, couldn't I hook up the headphone jack on the Pocket PC to that?

Okay wait; I just looked at the MP3 decks. When it says you can store up to 200 songs on a disc, are they talking about a CD-rom disc or what? Hmmm, I may just do that, b/c that would still give me the input jack I would need to run the PocketPC.

Sound like you want a cd player with an input jack to hook up your pocket pc. Now do you want the input lack on the face plate(like that aiwa) or do you want the re/white rca plu to come out of the rear of the deck (you would have to run a cable throught your dash. If you get the face plate kind, you would want to take the connection cable off when not playing MP3's. If you get the inputs in the rear and run the connection cable throught the dash and have come out in a nice spot, you have leave your pocket pc connect even whn not using it.

 

You can get alot of songs on a MP3 cd (it just a blank 80min/700mb cd-r). The amount of song you can get on the disc depends on the qaulity you convert them to for MP3.

You prob get your mp3's off the internet so the are prob about 160 to 192 bpm (about cd quality) if you convert those to 92bpm (fm radio quality) you can get about 400 songs on a cd.

I use 192mps when converting my reg cd's to MP3, and can get abou 200 songs on a cd.

I am going to get that AIWA deck w/ the jack on the front. That way I can just plug and play w/ Pocket PC.

I know that for some Pioneer models you can buy a thing that converts the cd changer port into an rca input. Then you just need a cheap little headphone-to-rca cable. Thats what I did with my Pioneer DEH-P3000. Works great. I know Crutchfield sells these things.

This will do the trick. The nice part is that you can move it from car to car without much fuss. For me, I have 3 cars that I own, plus 20 or so company cars(1 has a CD player, and it's the Neon )

I would say in between cd and fm quality. A lot depends on the quality of the mp3--or what every file type you use on the Pocket PC. Sounds better than FM, probably because of the short distance it has to travel.

 

Dude you can buy an average RF modulator with an input jack like the one you need for arounf $19.95, or a good one for around $34.00 and they are easy to use.
