what kind of car is it? The closest thing to what you describe that I've ever encountered is a 4x10. It showed up in a lot of 80's GM cars. There aren't many out there.

im not really sure the year cuz i cant remember its either 72, 76 or 78 Pontiac Grand Le Mans 10th anniversary. the speaker is in the top dash pad between the defrost or watever they are called. hope this helps somewhat...but it might be that 3x7 or maby that 4x10 it was a couple months ago i looked at it so i dont really remember exactly what it looks like, so i am just guessing on the demensions, but i know its long and skinny.

I agree with Jim. It is probably a 4X10. they are the only speakers that I can think of that were both long and skinny. My old 88 GMC S15 had them in the back.
Do they look kinda like this?

Crutchfield has a pioneer and a kenwood. Both are $100 but you can find them cheaper elsewhere.

ebay always has a bunch for $30-$100

search for "4x10 speakers"

Many stores also have them, I shop at best buy (big electronics store) in minnesota. And they have pioneers.

a round speaker will produce better sound than an oval shaped one. In an oval speakers there are areas of the cone that are farther away from the vc than others, meaning when the vc excurts there will be more of the cone lagging behind than in a perfectly round speaker.

in other words try cutting a round piece of paper and an oval shaped one. Hold one in your hand and poke the middle with a pencil. You will notice that the far sides of the oval shaped paper have more "lag" with the movement. Which means more cancellation
