Sub direction

What direction do you guys point your subs? At the moment I have a twin 10" sub box, but I'm thinking about removing the subs from it and building a custom box in the rear well. It will probably be an infinite baffle box, that is to say without port holes, and I just wondered what works best for you guys.

1) Facing upward towards the rear screen
2) Forward into the gastank
3) Backward towards the rear of the car
4) Straight Down

Thanks in advance,
Si

i was told that in a hatchback car like ours, to have them parallel with the hatch glass.? it makes it sound the best.? i spose as long as it hits the glass to have some sort of refraction off of it in your direction is good. i built a box for my two alpines that sits on the gas tank and is parallel withthe glass. i havetn put it in yet cuz i am using one of the subs in my truck 'till the 'maro is running.

i would aim for the hatch glass...subs sound best when they are bouncing off of a barrier like the glass or the floor rather then just having them exposed to plain air facing straight up

Isn't infinite baffle just "Free Air"? Thats just a board that the subs are laying on, not a box. Am I mistaken?

Infinite baffle is basically a 100% air-tight box. It means none of the air displaced in front of the sub can get to the back of the sub.

Sounds like a sealed box to me.

I think that is wrong. If it is a sealed box then it has a "finite" baffle. An open "box" has infinite baffle. Do google search on infinite baffle and you can see it on several different sites. Check this site out.

Towards the rear of the car

It works great, and is decently stealthy as well.

pretty stealthy, i bet nobody suspects you have subs in your big wooden box, with the amp mounted to it no less when you gonna clothe your box anyway?

as soon as I get my new amps and second sub. It will look more stealthy when I carpet it. It will look like an aftermarket cargo cover.

I'm all for the stelth look, but having an amp mounted in plain view isn,t really stelth. When you get new amps are you keeping them in the same spot? My box will be truly stelth this summer, or as soon as its not artic outside so I can work on it. It will be the same set up as yours, but I will proab have another board above the amp to cover it, or place it in the well next to the sub with a vent.

You do have a very nice looking box, and it will be even better when it is carpeted.

Beg you're pardon, got my infinite baffle mixed up with my finite baffle. Anyways, I'm thinking of the sealed box route.

Agreed. I am trying to decide what to do when I get the JBL amps, and what is the best way to hide them, but have them still easily accessible so I can make quick adjustments if needed, or to show some people who are interested...I was thinking or rebuilding my box so it sets higher, then building an amp box across the back of the car so they will flush mount and put a piece of tinted plexyglass over the amps, and exaust fans around the amps so they stay cool...but iunno yet. I prolly better hurry up and figure it out though, lol.
