Sub Boxes

How much would it cost to make a sub box for two 10's to go in the well of the rear hatch in my 86 TA? I want a little trunk space so i can put a bag or something on top. Any ideas as to how much it would cost? Thanks!

It all depends on what you have. I wil brake it down.
Saw: $45
Blade: $15
MDF: $25 per sheet
Screws: $5 per pound
Glue: $3 per tube
Carpet: $7
Spray Glue: $3

So this would cost you $128 with two sheets of MDF. Not too bad.

Thats what I have and I put the clamps in it to have the ttops bag still go back there. You needd to buy stronger grills than you get, they will break under the weight, just to warn you. I bought mine from a local audio place, carpeted for 200 bucks

If your worried about settin a bag on top, build or have your box built like this...

I can set bags in the back, if I had T-tops I could lay that over the box no problem. It will fit 2 12" but it is a tad small at aprox 1.67 cu. ft.

I just bought a 4'x8' x 3/4" sheet at Menard's last week (to use for shelving) and it cost $17.88 without tax.

I have to say, it looks different though. Not as 'grainy' as it used to. It looks to be more solid. At first I thought they gave me the wrong stuff!! It looked like cardboard. They said they get it from a different mill now?

Do you remember the first time you tried to make a box? And was it as complicated as a thirdgen well? I just think that if it is his first box, it will take two sheets.

$145 for a MDF box from a shop is a really good price. All the shops I have seen have them for $200+

I only paid $160 for the box for my 12`s and its mdf with a protective coating not carpet so the box is more water resistant and if you have ever ruined your box because of a sudden hatch leak that wasn`t ther before you know that this is a good thing.

I'd like to see what kind of box you're making from a 4x4 sheet. Any of my dual sub boxes use up almost a full 4x8' sheet.

And for anybody that's getting 4x8 sheets of MDF for $7... give me a call. You're my new supplier.

What kind of protective coating did you put on your box? My hatch just did that and I need to get it fixed but I want to have my box coated incase it happens again.

It came on the box but it kind of looks like rhino lining but it is much thinner and is harder the box was built by a company called pro box I believe.
