if you're 17, have your parents write or something to ebay, saying that it's a scam and not a legally binding contract since you're a minor. either way, report him to ebay, since while he does state it in the fine print it's clearly deceptive tactics...

you really have to be careful about how you read things on there, because there are unfortunately people that will take advantage of anyone they can.

I bought a Sony CD head unit that retailed for about $400 at the time from a wholesaler on eBay for $260, brand new and in the box. Don't let one jerk sour you on eBay, there are legitimate people there. Sometimes it just takes some searching

Good luck on nailing that bastard though!

I would definently contact ebay, he's clearly attempting to decieve. It looks like he's done this to other ppl, based on the negative comments in his feedback. I would tell ebay that he's in violation of the misleading titles. If you look at the top of the IE window, it just says alpine cda.....wholesale l. So if nothing else you could tell ebay that's all you saw and want the buyer to refund your money.

If not, just post several negative feedbacks on this guy. Three or four negative replies at the top of the list may keep away other potential buyers, even for his legitimate items. My general experience with ebay sellers is that they need a bit of prodding to get the job done.

Another route you might take: see if these places on "the list" require a wholesale license. He doesn't say in the auction you need one, so you could say that he misrepresented the item, since you need a wholesale license to buy from wholesalers.

Good luck getting your money back.

this right here is gonna come back to haunt you though....he clearly states:

As the title and description state, this auction is for a comprehensive electronics wholesale distributor information list, and not the actual item shown. Bidders that do not pay will be reported as a Non-Paying Bidder to eBay. By bidding you state that you understand that you will not be getting the electronics shown.
Gotta read that small print man...but here's hoping you can get something out of it.

I've been looking at stereos on Ebay too and noticed this scam. I was wondering how they can get away with it. I felt sorry for the people who were going to be decieved. Good luck.

well, you are right about that, but, he also clearly states that it's a cd player, and gives the specs and the model number. He basically is selling two products and only gave me one...And you are right about that fine print, but then why did he lie earlier on the bidding page and state that it is a cd player. My mom is trying to take some action, but I feel this is a lost cause...I have to save up again, and I think I will just buy locally. Does anyone think that my mom will have a case with this situation...you really have to read every detail on that page, but I'm still not sure.

Here are a couple places that sell your head unit, so that you can at least compare prices when you go to actually buy it.
http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=alpcda7897
http://www.ikesound.com/1024.htm
And if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't let anybody keep $220 and say, "oops, my mistake". I would at the very least make their life miserable. You can contact the other buyers he's done this to and together file a complaint with ebay. If you can get 3-5 ppl, ebay may remove him.

and if it does require a wholesale license to buy from anyone on the list, i don't think it said that on the ad, so tell that to ebay, the better business bureau in his town, and if they think you have grounds on deceptive practices, maybe even talk to the local police or post office (since he used the mail, mail fraud is a federal offense). i wouldn't file anything unless he really refused to give the money back though. and see if he's an authorized distributor of someone else's copyrighted list. that i'd file over.

My friend, I'm afraid you've been had.

He does clearly state that the price is not for the CD player. There's no place where he actually says that you're bidding on the CD player.

The worse part is that all a guy has to do is make a list of a few companies like that with their names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. and mail it to you.

It's sad but true.

I hope I'm wrong and Ebay does at least make him give you your money back as long as you return what he sent you. That would be great, and I hope it happens, but I honestly doubt it.

All you can do is live and learn. Lord knows I've spent more for less than this, and I learned from it.

I would have taken this as he was selling the CD Player also...and at a price for $220, I would assume it IS a CD Player...I wish ebay would remove these types of people...but, hey, since you have his list, I would post it anywhere and everywhere you can and list the guy's ebay name(s), even on here...Then get on ebay, open a new auction, and post his list and names, state in BIG BOLD LETTERS that you are not selling anything, tell people not to bid on the item, just tell them that you got screwed by the guy and so you are screwing him back. Whatever you choose, let us know what happens.

here you go - end his future profits. post the list on your website for free, and then go into ebay, basically copy his auction, set the opening bid to .01 and the reserve at half a million, and set it to run for a month, or as long as possible. then put the link to your website in the ad, so everyone that looks at his will see yours, with a lower price, click and find the list, and never buy his.

or, even better, just post the list as the last picture and write "this is what you're buying - a paper copy of this list" in 50 point font red blinking letters...

if you ask me, yeah it was kinda sly, but it was not really small font, everytime you bid on ebay you need to read everything, almost of times stuff is too good to be true, Some times you will see New in Box, missing faceplate, or wairing harness, or buttons or something, or blow out speakers....you need to read EVERYTHING....

got me too!! Luckily, the high price is only .99 cents. That bastard. Check mine out, wonder if it is the same person. It is the same add and everything. I emailed him for the list just for the hell of it, and I have not heard anything back. I should leave negative feedback on him, since I requested him send me the final reciept and he didn't. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=1267

It doesn't look like the same person, the one you bought from has been selling since oct. It's interesting tho that the one that 92camaro44 bid on is now no longer a registered user. hmmmmm.

You know, come to think of it, everytime I have bought something "new in the box" on ebay, I've had to contact the seller and threaten action to get my stuff. The tragic thing is that just about anything you'd buy on ebay, you can find the same price (and sometimes better) from other online stores.

I been scammed on ebay about 4 times. Another scam to watch out for is the "get exactly what you see below." This guy from Wisconsin was selling street glow for 70 bucks (gold series) and I along with about 200 other people bid on them. Turns out the guys idea was to send a "picture" of the street glow in an envelope to every person in that he showed a picture on the ebay page. Anyways, i contacted the Wisconsin general attourney along with some other people who got scammed also and after about 6 months I get a letter saying this guy has been convicted of felony theft and is going to serve jail time. And about 2 weeks ago I got a restitution check from the wisconsin state court for 70 bucks.....

First get this guys contact info off ebay, you can find out how through the help, then report him to the ebay fraud department.. If that all fails, go to www.fraud.org and file a report there. Im not sure all this will work in that he stated you will not get the item, but it does seem like a deceptive wat to get money, so give it a try.

Yeah, I think it was pretty clear that it was a list he was selling. He comes right out and says it a couple times, including the title.

O.k. look, two things. One, everybody knows that he's selling a wholesale list and says so, but you don't need to keep telling that to 92camaro44. He knows, he's accepted it, and he's working on a 12 step program to help him from not doing this again. Second, I think it is blatantly obvious that the guy is trying to be deceptive. You don't give a product picture and specs for the first half of a listing for something you're not selling. His description wasn't about the list, he doesn't say how many pages it is or how many different sources are on it. He does however tell you how many watts the head unit puts out. The fact of the matter is this seller is a con man. When I pulled the auction up, the word list gets cut off at the top of the IE window because he is so busy describing a cd player.

to cd maro man... are you telling me he wasn't being deceptive??i mean you just copy and pasted parts of that page which say it is not a cd player...the little parts that i could not see..and yea..nice bold....it wasn't there when i looked at it on the page... to joezero, thank you for backing me up..i do realize that I made a mistake, look at the feedback on the thread...and I am trying to get the message to people to watch out...i sent the list to as many people as possible...also, it says wholesale list after it says the brand and model number!!! i mean....im 17... The first thing I thought was that the cd player is wholesale price...the biggest risk is not taking one...everything happens for a reason, and now I know the drawbacks of ebay, and I continue to preach the word of internet actions...amen

Was all of his feedback private (like the positve and negative comments) or just the specific actuion pages from past auctions. I think it should still show if he got negative feedback and what people had to say about the seller. Soory to her that you got ripped on a nice cd player. I've bought and sold alot of stuff on ebay and have my fair sair of getting not so great mechendise. I've stopped buying electronic mechendise all together off ebay.

Biggest Scam Ever..must Read

yea I was sucked into buying these lists , but I was lucky they was not much. They don't tell you that most you got to send for a catalog, or you find a real cool site, and you got to have proof you are a reseller and other stuff. Then some you got to order in bulk. I found one good site out of all of them...

True but you can not edit a description if someone has bid on the item if there where 0 bids then he can edit it if someone had allready bid then he cant.
