Just got done with the installation of my flip out screen where my air vents go pictures coming soon note its a work in progress so please when the pics come keep the laughing down to a minimal i dont have the right equipment to install it all that properly. didnt take too long thou just a day its about 60% complete and i will give details as they come "(and some interesting pictures)

quick access plugs for anything that someone wants to plug in, still need to make a holder for it to make it look prity and right now new head unit is in the works it wouldve gone faster but my girlfriend is using up all my cash

 

on a side note ac still works just had to plug a big hole and still need to get trim so the screen looks flush when its not on again in the works

you know, thats a great place to put that.

on my vert, when the tops down (90% of the time), i routed the AC to my feet so that the wind "pulls" the cool air up on me...

and in the winter, i have the heat on the floor for the same reason.....



i could easily put a screen there and have it work out great..

That is a really nice install..i was afraid at what i was gonna see..but i like that..if i ever decide to do a video system w/my audio..its either going there, or fabbin up somethin like someone else did to go above the stock radio

 

theyer for contrast and brightness volume power and a few other things, they are there just in case the batterys die on the remote i guess but thanx for the complements its not quite finished but im workin on it got the new head unit just now acctually and am going to go out install it right now (its 9:30 pm but whos keeping time anywayz? ) but yea ill get some more pics when things are all said and done

 

Is it just the screen or is it a player also?

its just the screen the dvd player is in the rear hatch area i had a pic of it... just not sure where it went

 

I like that unit, how much did it cost and what are the specs on it? (Resolution and Size) Where'd you buy it from?

I too had been a little hesitant when people had discussed mounting it there, but I have to say it looks great.
If I didn't already have my screen mounted above the radio, I think I'd do that, cause that looks like the perfect location. Can't wait to see it when it's all finished.

Just a suggestion on the cables. I'd extend them and have them in the center console. That way if someone wanted to plug something in, you wouldn't have wires hanging down across the console.

 

thats a great idea i might acctually do that intstead as for where i got it and how much it cost i was i belive only $400 shipping included i got it a while back (end of last year) but i hadnt installed it becuase of certain pressing issues. as for the size its a 6.7 i belive i couldve gone 7 inches but i didnt wanna fork out the extra $100 for .3 inches but ill see if i cant figgure out where i got it exactly and the exact specs for ya, as for more pics ill take more when i get enough time to do it and when i add the peace to make it look flush mounted its really a great hiding spot for it as most people look where ur radio is for things like that.

 

Hopefully you didnt already say this and I read over it, but what brand and model is it?

As for cash, I didnt tell you to buy me a new tranny mount(infact if I recall I told you NOT TO!) or the speakers(I had no idea you were ordering those)or the radiator(I had no idea you were ordering that either)...

As for the digital camera, It has been sitting in the house waiting but we never seemed to have time to take pics, someone seems to always want to do "something" else while at my house

But I am very apreciative of all you have given me babe, just stop pouring money into my car and lets work on gettting your car looking as good as mine

(And for the record: NO you are not getting me a paint job!!! It will wait till I can afford it myself!)

i've got a myron&davis tv,dvd,&cd (all in one unit) in my stock location and it hits the shifter! hopefully, when i do that t56 six-speed swap, that problem will go away. you could take a piece of 3/4 inch mdf wood ,cut it to the shape of the vent on the outside,cut a DIN size on inside ,then coat wood with fiberglass resin,and paint it flat black. if you take your time ,it will match the color and texture of dash perfectly,best of all,it's very inexpensive for the materials and could be done in just a few hours! :lala:

 

Dude you stole my idea!! I've had that idea in my head for a little over a year now, didn't want to post my idea only cause I wanted to be the first to do it. Looks like you beat me to it. Good job on the install, looks pretty good. I thought maybe I would be able to route the air ducts around the sides of the monitor of course the flow would be substantially reduced but from the looks of yours it doesn't look like there would be room to do it. Keep us updated on your install. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

try the wood and fiberglass idea ,it works really good.you need to sand the fiberglass resin after it dries,but once it's painted,you'd swear it was plastic

 

I'm just curious, if you want it to look like plastic, why don't you just use plastic?

 

plastic won't support the unit,the wood/fiberglass combo would be alot stronger plus it would be the smooth texture like the face of the vents

 

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but it looks like the unit is already supported and all it needs is a facing to finish it off. In which case, you could get some flat ABS and cut a trim ring, then glue it to the heater vents. I think I'd be a lot easier to get the color/texture to match if you use ABS as opposed to fiberglass.

 

could one hook this up to a lap top and eventualy do on the fly tuning?... this seems like a very good idea... Im not into the whole "home entertainment center" in the car, but the idea of a onboard screen that could be hooked up to a laptop to show scanning software and or on the fly tuning would be very vital.

 

as long as your laptop has RCA video outputs or you can get an adapter to make it so,yes. most video monitors have 2-3 a/v inputs,you could dedicate one of them just for that purpose( i don't know about those nifty Fast&Furious computer graphics,tho)

I personally think it'd be even more slick to have it look like an entertainment system, and then with the push of a button it shows then engine readouts.

There are some screens out there with VGA inputs specifically for computer use. If you go to www.mp3car.com , they have a wealth of information on car computers.

 

I think its pretty cool to adjust your whole engine's fuel management on the fly instead of jerkin off to a porno in your car...

What I wanted to do is have an engine managment and a GPS type thing going. Both can be run off the laptop.

 

That's exactly what I'm going to do with my in-car PC; it will cover the entertainment stuff as well as engine monitoring/tuning and GPS stuff.

I'm trying to do the setup in my fourth-gen though and I'm having trouble finding a good place for a screen that doesn't stick out... I love that unit shown above and I wanna find a place for it.
