speaker box design....
I was curious to see some 12 in box designs....I had a box with 4 8in solo-barics(old style) but somebody decided they liked it more than I did and took it
Anyway, I wanted to see some pictures of some boxes with 12's in it. Ill be making mine out of pine(ALOT lighter than particle board.....) Now before you say anything bad about pine for boxes, think about how much lighter it is. My last box had NO leaks and I hit 129db's in my only contest to enter. It was completely airtight, and about 10-20lbs lighter. so...send the pics please....thanks guys.

Here is my current set up... well the drawing anyways...
And here is it all installed...
They are the GT120 serries subs, 12" JBL. Good price but i dont think the box will be big enough for serious sound. But for what im using them for they sound awsome.
And hit just as hard if not harder as they should for $150 a pair

Thanks onebad....Its two amps...M44 and M50. M44 runs my mids and highs...the M50 is bridged in 2 ohm mono to run all three 12" kickers freeair. So far I've placed first place two years in a row for SQ until they stopped the category. Most people are into DB drag.

Hye Mitchell, what wattage amp are you using there, and how powerul are those subs? I know that you have a Jensen amp, becuase I have a 340W version of that amp. Just curious, I guess. I have a single Sony Xplod 12" 1200W and am looking to build an enclosure for it and its mate when I get it.

for the box Im building...it wont flex...there wont be over a foot of the board without a brace...so it will work fine.....Ive been building sub boxes from pine for years.....yellow pine actually...never had any problems.

So with as much bracing as you have to use would you be really saving much weight?

Check manufacturer's recommendation on what size box the speaker requires. Makes a huge difference. Not all speakers require the same air volume.

not that much bracing....but three 12's in their own "box" will brace up the box enough it wont flex. The boxes are going to be ported....so even if they flex a little bit...its not going to hurt sound quality....Ive been building boxes for about 10yrs now....started out with the old Kicker boxes
And yes I know that each speaker requires different cu ft of space...ported or sealed. Im thinking of going with three 12" JLAudio W7 or W0's(12ohms) with "about" a cubic ft per sub.....with a 2.5 in port 7in long....should tune the box to about 45hz.

Ill find a pic of that box and put on here....

jensen, jvc, sony, pine boxes... you guys crack me up. jensen sucks, thats why their amps melt down. jvc and sony also have their own workmanship problems. and pine boxes, are you kidding me? like it really matters what type of pine it is. there is a reason why all major box building companies use mdf... its alot better than other materials. particle board is even better than pine. sure you can use pine, but for it to sounds as good as mdf, it has to be about twice as thick. kinda throws the weight issue in the water, doesnt it? bracing is not gonna help it much on the flexing, unless you have a brace every about 3 inches. not very plausible if you ask me. i could get all into the physics of it with you but im not really in the mood. this post is kinda hurting my brain anyways. for ****s and giggles, ill post my box. pay no attention to the dirtyness and amps, there will be an amp rack there in a couple of days or so.

Ok guys...good points. Ive always used pine in the past....never really built anything for competition or anything....but I can admit when Im wrong.....so where could I get the MDF board? Should I go with 3 10's like I had in my 96...or would two 12's get the job done....I know theres always the issue of speakers, power....etc...just wanted to get some suggestions. Ill definitely try out the MDF and see for myself. Thanks guys.

Here's what Im doing...got a couple sheets of 3/4 MDF from Home Depot....one 12" Kicker solobaric L7...and a Kicker KX800.2. The box my buddy and I figured out...using ALL of the "trunk"....should be about 2cu ft. sealed......should sound awesome. Im going with my current head unit...Alpine9807 and 4x6 Kicker's in the dash....with Boston Acoustic 6x9's. Think that will be alright?
