Head Unit Display dies when I turn headlights on...

I got the JVC headunit with the motorized faceplate (only head unit, I don't have an amp). It works great until I turn on my headlights, at which point the display craps out (no longer displays any numbers etc, just dimly lights everything). If I have a CD playing before I turn my lights on, it will continue to play and sound fine though.... I just have no display. It stays that way even after I turn my lights off. I have to push the reset button on the faceplate to get it to work normally again.

Any ideas what is wrong with it?

Thanks-

sounds like you hooked up the Illumination wire.. i bet if you cut the wire it will stop doing that.

Hmm. I believe I did. As I recall, illumination was orange w/white stripe. There was an orange one labled "Dimmer" that I didn't hook to anything though.

I'll try cutting that orange with white. Thanks!

err...isnt the illumination wire supposed to be hooked up?? i think the problem here is....--if everything was hooked up right, which it sounds like it is...... easy way to check for it being hooked up right....pre set a radio station, turn the key to off, then turn it back to acc, if the pre set station is there, its hooked up right. anyways, ..i think the problem is....you need to turn your headlight dimmer clockwise lol. yes im serious....just try it....ill laugh it it works.

that test only works for the money back up. it doesn't work if you have the wires crossed and not all head units need the illumination wire hooked up. also the dimmer switch is most likely on and up all the way if he is drivering at night LoL
