Am I getting RIPPED OFF????

My cars is finally set...... But i have no sounds yet.. Im not going for much just a CD reciever(for now) .. But my question is how much did you guys pay to get it installed...?????

I went to this one place and the guy told me that it was gonna be $120 and 3hrs just for installation..He said that my car already had an amp and that he needed to run new wires or watever.... I have that stock BOSE(i think) System in my car...

But then i went to this other place and a the guy there tells me it will be $50.

So my question is is $120 a good price or is he just BS'ing me... ??? Or does the guy that will do it for $50 no know wat he is doing....??? o yeah how much did you guys pay?

Thanxs for your time.....

for a basic cd player install, the shop horizon audio does it for $40, 120 bucks for doing something so simple, why not treat yourself to a crab dinner at red lobster and just do it yourself =]

Best Buy installs them for free if you purcahse the cd player there. I heard bad about that though, best thing is to DO IT YOURSELF, that way u know its done right.

cheers

Typically a car with a BOSE system stock will usually have some kind of amp installed. Not always, but it is surely possible.

Installing a CD player in your car should not be too hard to do, I assume you have a 3rd gen F bod since you are here and not elsewhere..

The only thing you would have to worry about would be an airbag system if you have one.

Installing a deck is usually as simple as getting a wiring harness for around 20$ or so, removing the bezel on the front of your radio pod (camaro's are usually three screws there) and undoing around 2-4 screws that actually hold your deck in. Removing the old stock deck then connecting the harness to the stock harness then to your CD player.

As Haynes manuals say, installation is the reverse of removal.

There ya go. All done.

Now there might be other things in store as well. For example if you are running non-stock speakers and wish to run your own wires, there is that to be done as well.

Some installers insist on running their own wires, others just keep the stock ones, it depends on the age of the vehicle and what kind of speakers you are replacing the stock ones with.

After that speach..

120$ is likley too much.

50$ is more reasonable.

Now.. here is a question for you.

Do either of these guys work at some kind of place that does car audio? Or are they friends/aquaintences of yours?

$120 for a deck install is crazy. I too think you should look into doing it yourself. It really is pretty easy.

What part of CA are you in?

If you haven't already bought the receiver try the Pioneer DEH-45DH, it's the same size as the factory radio (1.5 DIN) and goes in really easy like it was meant to be there. It's way too easy putting in a headunit.

Actually, some bose systems have different wiring to the speakers that isnt compatible with an aftermarket cd player, and the speakers do actually have to be re-wired. I know that its true on most newer cars with the monsoon system, not sure about our cars though

Thats what the guy (thats charging me 120) said.. he said something bout having to route new wires and that i would not have "power" since the stock bose head unit has no output(or something like that)

Both are Car Audio Establishments.. and the guy that will do it for 50 also did my alarm ... so i might go there...

Im in Southern California....

BTW im plannign on getting the Sony Xplod CDX-M630 <---- N E thoughts on the CD player??

Xplod=poop, go wiht somethin else..personally i'd do (in order of preference)

Eclipse
Clarion
Blaupunkt
Kenwood
JVC

I duno about that output man, i know its most definitely true for newer cars, but as for your deal, do more research. Get some wiring diagrams or something. Because you got a 50/50 shot of getting it done right. Either way if the first choice is wrong ur out money. So id say

a) do some more hw
b) stay clear from sony

i'd recommend a pioneer head unit, got two in my two vehicles. Friends got htem, no complaints =]

and i had mine for over 4 years thats in my camaro. The custom EQ settings are the best, not that either of other brands bt I found something good so i'll buy pioneer from now on, and for $170 bucks you got yourself a nice one.
