Subs in door
I have an 89 vert and don't want to lose the little trunk space I have to subs. Has anyone put subs in the door before? an 8" or a 10". I was thinking of building a fiberglass piece to push the inner door skin out creating more room for the sub. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have seen a thing you could buy that did just that.. I think it was actually in the kick panel.. but I think there is one for the door too.. man I wish I could remember where though.. But I do know it's out there. .so you don't need to make something.

it'll prolly sound horrible and may not even be possible with large subs i've seen it before with 8's but it was an s-10 that had plex windows installed and removed all the internals of the door to make it in essence a custom box

hmm.... but... all those mechanical parts in your door, They might just rattle loose. If you really want subs in the door I would check stuff like, the locks, windows, any other bold to make sure they are tight and well as bored as I get I would probably put locking washers on everything in there and then throw some dyno mat inside it while your at it. And... o.O would an 8" even fit? Why not use kick panels?

I would imagine a couple 8s in the kickpanels wouldn't sound too bad. I have seen it done, they actually bring a new experience to the type of sound you hear.
But yeah be prepared to lose the leg room.

you're gonna need to search for proper space in the kicks for an 8" and you deffinately wont be able to get the proper amount for a 10. doors will be a little more difficult because they arent really airtight and not rigid enough (they would flex a lot). if you dont want to lose a lot of space, just get one sub. lots of people think its almost manditory to have 2 subs, but one can sound really good. unless you're reallllly creative and good with fiberglass, putting subs up front correctly is gonna be very difficult.

i put digital designs 6.5 subs in my last car in the doors. Cut away some of the inner door skin and build a little fibreglass enclosure in there, and they sounded excellent. You could even look for subs that work well in an IB (infinite baffle) application. This means they dont need a box, they just need to be mounted to something sturdy

what about custom making something where the 6-9s used to be? (The sides of your back seat?)...And then you could put some 6" rounds in the door. I would NEVER use kick panels since I love my leg room...

look at the area of the floorboard behind your pedals, I seen pictures in a car audio magazine where a guy cut a hole thier and mounted a 10 inch sub. I believe he welded a box under the car and then dynamated it for a sealed enclosure setup
