A couple questions about sound quality..

A couple questions about sound quality..
I know that I have seen a good discussion about this somewhere before, but after doing some searches, I couldn't find the answer that I was looking for.
If I build my box so that my 2 12" rockford fosgate punch DVC's fire downward into the trunk, how much of a difference in sound quality will there be? Will it sound like complete junk, and is there anyone here who has done it?
I am trying to make my setup as discrete as possible because my red 25th attracts enough attention as it is, and I want to be able to store my t-tops nicely.

if you mean mounting them inverted then there will be no sound quality difference at all. You just have to wire the sub backwards. Do all your wiring for the correct impedence load for your subs, then on the amp instead of connecting the positives to postives, you do it to negative on the amp.
this will make the subs boom backwards towards the magnet. Subs will work the same forwards or backwards so the sq difference wont be noticeable.
Some people actually prefer inverted mounting because they get the extra airspace with the motor, magnet etc of the sub outside the box and not taking space inside.

Keep in mind that I don't want the speakers firing into the box, I am just talking about a box built normally but inserted facing downward into the trunk well.

They were talking about you making a box, and putting the speakers in the box so that the front of the speaker is inside the box. If you wire it backwards it will pound backwards, it may look uglier (opinion of course) but you get more airspace.
But it sounds like what you're asking is to design a box so that the speakers are on the bottom of the box. I personally don't know if that would work or not, but it seems like it would be a good way to stay discreet. I dunno, but if it does work then you'd probably need an inch or two of free space below the box, but yeah, I would also like to know if this would sound good.

My $0.02:
In essence, if I understand you correctly, what you are describing is going to act like a bandpass enlclosure (well, sort of anyway). If you have a sub box that is firing downwards into a semi-enclosed airspace, such as your trunk well, then the trunk well is going to act (sort of) like the "outer" enclosure of the bandpass, and the "leak" or gap where the sound waves "escape" into the rest of the car's interior would represent the outer port.
"Everybody" knows that bandpass boxes are the hardest to build, meaning they require the most careful, calculating design in order to achieve good volume and sound quality. If you don't get it just right, you lose both. I'd be interested to see how a qualified expert would work out the inherent problems (sheeesh!) in this idea. So, my guess is that it's not going to live up to your expectations of quality without some KILLER design work.
If your goals are high sound quality and concealment, you might be better off building an opaque bandpass box in the trunk well, with the ports firing toward the roof. Kinda big, though....not sure if you could fit two twelves without making it pretty obvious what was going on...hope this helps.
By the way, this is my first post, and I just wanted to say I think that this a great messageboard; there seems to be a lot of really helpful information here, with minimall Trollage. I'll try to do my part to keep it that way!

Johnny, I'd first like to pat you on the back for having the most intelligent (and proofread) first post on this board ever. Welcome to the boards.
What you say makes sense, I expected that it probably wouldn't work well without a lot of effort. This most likely is the route that I won't be going in.
I am trying to come up with a unique way to keep the speakers (somewhat) hidden and still be able to store my t tops.

That's looking like the best bet at the moment. Now I only have to find a good spot to hide the amp so that it can't be seen in the window.

If your worried about ppl peeking in at your box from your hatch. Get the black tarp(kinda window shade like) Im pretty sure all of our cars had one at one point. I know mine still has it. This tarp like thing covers the hatch from view...Id be doomed if it wasnt for the tarp. Id get mine stolen like nothing...Also to further protect anyone from stealing it you could bolt it down someplace. Im not sure how it could be done but Im sure it could be. As for storing your t tops.. I know they make boxes to hold 3 10s. 2 12s etc etc. with a t top rack on it. I dont got it but I know someone makes one.
As for your box idea. I dont think it sounds too gr8. It would most likely need to be professionally done. Or maybed fiberglassed.
