Is there a brand that hasn't changed their quality?

I'm not really looking for what people think is the best... but I want to know what brands were and still are really good.

I know in the 80's a pair of Infinity home stereo speakers could be as much as my car... but now you can get a pair of their speakers for a few hundred at Best Buy.

Rockford Fosgate was great in the early/mid 90's, but they also have copped out to the "use the name to sell crappy stuff" motto.

And Sony... well, I'll just say XPlod. You know what I mean.

My dad said that Pioneer and Alpine (even some Audiovox!) was really great back in the 70's-80's... but now those seem to be mostly Wal*Mart brands (I know there is high end stuff, but for the most part)

So, my question is, what brands still care about their quality as much as they did?

Hmmm...

Phoenix gold... wait, they merged with Rockford...

ah!!

Pyramid.... They have always sucked and have done a very good job of maintaining that status.

I guess the most stable would have to be either JL audio, JBL or JVC.

Kenwood seems to have maintained some range of stability as well.

Well, it's good to know that Infinity still makes some good stuff!

I'm just sick of audio companies lying about wattages and such (ok, not lying, using a different scale ) I want to buy something and have it be what it says!!!!

JBL-not the greatest quality but has been around forever

there are many quality products out there for a decent price...but for elite quality products you really have to pay

Dollar for dollar you can't beat a Pioneer HU.

But, to the point of the post, even Pioneer isn't what they where.

ya kickers stuff has been pretty good over the years...their new L7s are super ugly though...IMO they spent way too much money on developing a new look for the sub and not enough on its performance

the only thing that has changed on its specs is the sensitivity is up 0.5db

JL audio's quality has gotten MUCH BETTER from what i gather, all my friends used to have problems with the stuff, and now it is a good brand.

how's that...performance with the new cone will actually help, plus they get a smaller version of the Solo X motor..??
The looks of the cone will help cone flex under high pressure situations....performance will be the same if not louder, and sensativity changes with enclosure types anyways...I wouldn't use that to dertemine if a sub is good or not.
The feedback from the show is that dealers and reps love the new look...and I am finding about a 80/20 split, 20% dis-liking them.

it just looks too ***** too me...chrome and blue means **** IMO. I guess there is a huge market for the "****" type look so if i was in the industry i might go that route too to make money i just wont be spending any of my cash on it.

well, about 80% of the other worlds population love them and have placed many orders for them...so you get a mix when you make changes. The added hue of blue is to match the lineup of the Sx amps, a common of the industry.

And I hate to tell you this, but if you buy any car audio, you are in the industry.
And you don't have to buy it...there will be many others that will.

I guess if you want to spend cash somehwere, motor upgrades would work.

PSS, I'm sure Alma Gates (great friend of mine) would love your comments about brand bashing. very mature...

Aaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!! That's great!

Anyway, I love Kicker components. My bro always used them back in the 90's and had good luck (two 15" Kicker subs in a VW bug ), I think they make high quality products from entry level to serious competition. I've been VERY pleased with any Kicker product I've ever owned.

im sure you'll have good sales with the product...im simply saying i wont be buying any of the new L7 line.

i dont see how you consider it product bashing when i stated numerous times that it was my personal opinion. I never claimed to do any studies on the new L7s and say they were crap.

and you are more than welcome to your opinion, all I was stating as if something is shiney doesn't make it crap...if so we would all have black rims.
And maybe the product bashing confused me when you stated:

Don't know, maybe it was just me that ready it that way............:lala:

Man, nobody's a Pioneer fan around here? Well, I've been happy with them since '94... go figure. Sure, Walmart sells them; so what?

Basically, just buy your components by price. Spend $400 on a 4-channel amp, and if that amp has a well-known brand name on it, then you know you're getting quality.

Spend $100 on a 4-channel amp... and expect to be buying another amp after a few months.
