grounds

hello all,

I was just wondering. Where did you all ground your amplifiers out to. When the guys installed my subs they grounded out the amps to the bracket that is used to hold the folding back seats up. I knowthat this is not a good idea as that part moves so I wanted to relocate the ground. Where would be a good spot.

thanks

Anywhere you find a screw hole in the body... or just drill your own. Just beware of the gas tank.

if your amps are in the rear, down along the passenger side by the spare tire, there is a straight stretch of frame, ground it there.

grind off more paint then you think is necessary to get a GOOD ground, and then shoot a few screws through a ring terminal.

I just wish that it would work. It worked for about 20 minutes...then the ground fell off the mount and I don't have the proper tool to remove the bracket to relocate the ground. Gonna have to bring it back to the shop tomorrow and get it properly grounded.

since my amps are a big part of my rear seat, one of the seatbelt bolts worked great

OMG NO! DO NOT DO THIS!
You have no idea how bad this is for the HU.
This is with out a doubt the worst piece of “advice” I’ve heard on this board in a long time.
A bad ground at the amp CAN KILL the HU, and you're intentionally making a bad ground at the amp.
Doing this the amp will try to ground through the RCA cable, back to and through the HU.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING!
NEVER DO THIS! :nono:

Well today I re-did my grounds. I used my dremel tool to grind away some pain underneats that plastic covering in the rear by the seat belts. I then put one of those eye pieces on my ground wire and screwed it directly to he chassy. Ground was good but the amps still weren't firing.

This frustrated me so then I busted out my volt meter and low and behold, the ground was not the problem...it was the power line. I examined the fuse and yep...it melted. SO!! I went to Stereo plus and bought a replacement gold plated fuse rated at 80amps. Its made by pheonix gold and came in a nifty package and costed me a big 9$ so it should do the trick. When I talked to the guys at the Stereo installation place they stated that the fuse they used was the one that came with the fuse holder and they aren't exactly grade A fuses.

Well I am happy that its back up and running cuz I like bass when I drive.

Behind that plastic area behind the seat is the wheel well. Not sure if you could put a speaker there. I say your best bet for speaker is building a small MDF box that will fit in that sail panel location and run some 6.5" components there. Thats my plan. Should sound freakin sweet!.
