cd player help
ok...this isnt actually for my camaro, but everyone here helped me a ton with camaro's cd player, so i figure i might b able to get some help with the 79 corolla's too.
Ok, I get how the power and ground wires work, how the antenna plugs in, but the last wire needed to make the cd player work, I do not get. I believe it is the yellow wire on my pioneer deh-24f cd player...but am not sure what it does or goes too, is it an antenna signal?
Basically, aside from connecting the power wires, and ground, and the antenna, what other wire is needed to make the cd player turn on?
Where should this wire come from? what are usualy colors for it? does it put out any electricity? basically, anything that might help me =)
thanks a ton- chris

The yellow one would be the constant power for the clock and stuff, hook it to the cigarette lighter power. The cd player wont work without it.

ok, i went to best buy and the guy said there were 3 things i needed minimum for it to turn on. Ground, power and antenna. I have a 14gauge wire going straight from my battery that I had connected to the yellow on the cd players harness. black ground connected to a good metal area, and then antenna plugs in nice and ez.....the cd player's harness has a bunch of other wires..one i know is the alt power or whatever...I need to get that one, but do I need it for the cd player to work?

Actually, the Best Buy guy is a little off. You need switched power (red), constant power (yellow) and ground (black). The only time you need the antenna hooked up for it to work is if you cant find a good ground with the black wire, and that doesnt always work. You can also hook the red wire to the battery too if your good enough to remember to shut off the radio every time you get out of the car.

thank you very much, i had been using yellow as const power, and he said that was wrong, that it should be some sort of signal, and red power...he wasnt an audio guy though..he was a comp guy...so that might have been bad person to ask
I did have yellow being const wrong....but least I was right about it being a power wire =D
I will try with both to batt for now just because I want music, where is good place to get the alt power from? Asked a friend, he said steering wheel column, but I'd prefer something less important than that.

16 or 14 should be ok, if you look on the fuse panel there should be an ACC or RADIO fuse, hook the red wire to there and see if it turns on with the key.

there should be a wire coming out of the harness somewhere that is the on/off wire your looking for. Get a test light (or just use a 12v bulb that has wires coming off it and hook one end to the ground. Turn the key on and see which wire lights up the bulb, the yellow one will anyway but look for one that turns on and off with the key. You will be able to listen to the radio with the car off if its hooked to this wire by turning the key to "ACC".

just stuck some more speakers in it, now it has 2 pioneer 4x6's and 2 6x9's...total speaker price, $27! sounds pretty decent for a car that has never had its windows rolled up or doors locked since I bought it....don't want it to sound any better.
Right now I love being able to lean in and turn it on to show my friends with no key...but in a week or 2 when I actually remount the deck where I want it (don't have a long enough antenna cable right now) I'll set it up the way you suggested. =) I'm keeping the stock....1979...tuner in there, and then the cd player will be hidden away, but still semi accesable. Since I haven't tested the door locks since I bought it, and don't plan on trying to fix them if they don't work, hidden is a good option.

I was a car audio specialist at Best Buy and yes that other guy was wrong. Here's the right way to do it:
Run an 8 gauge power wire (at a minimum) from the positive side of the battery through the firewall to the B+ on your amp. (If it doesn't say B+ it just means the positive terminal on your amp, same thing)
Next is the remote wire. You should use 12 or 14 gauge for this wire. This wire will go from the remote terminal on your amp to the accessory wire behind your CD player where you splice the harnesses together. When you buy a new radio there's a wire harness you'll have to strip down all the wires and connect them to the harness that plugs into your car (available at Best Buy and most car audio shops.) You'll want to connect the remote wire to the ACCESSORY wire in the harness. Typically the accessory wire is blue. So, you'll have the car harness connected to the radio harness with your remote wire spliced into the accessory wire between the harnesses.
Finally, use the same gauge wire as the power wire (in this example it's 8 gauge) for your ground wire. This wire should be no longer than 3 feet. Find some place on the car that is grounded and make sure you have a clean connection (scrape any paint off that may be present on the metal that you're using for your ground.) Connect the other end of this wire to the ground terminal on your amp.
That's it!

i dont have an amp...least not in this car, that does help some though...because my other car does have an amp...or will...if i ever get it all hooked up. Thanks a ton for the info.....an amp would be nice for the corolla too, throw some 8" or 10" subs in so it could have a lil bass (base? not sure on spelling).
if anyone knows of any cheap CHEAP amps that arent total crap, let me know.
