Please tell me the truth

I went to Circuit City to have them install a head unit I was going to get and I asked how much it would be. He said that the kit would be $55 and that I would also have to pay $90 for them to rewire it because I had a factory amp that wouldn't support aftermarket radios. They guy said "all Camaro's have them" which sounded like a bunch of crap. When I checked at Best Buy the guy just said I need the GM Kit and probably an antenna adapter. He said nothing about rewiring. What is the truth, do I have an amp or not?? Its an 88 Camaro 305 TBI with the ERS system in it.

Not all Camaros need to be rewired... in fact most don't. If you have the Bose package, however, the car needs to be rewired for 4 ohm speakers. ERS is not the Bose package as far as I've seen, though I could be wrong.

If you have kickpanel speakers, you have the Bose system.

If you have a "bose" system then it is a 2 ohm that needs to be converted to a 4 ohm. Thats a lot of money to spend on it imo but I am no expert

goto sears. get the dash kit and wire harness and run far far way from CC and best buy. they told me it would be $40 for the car side wire harness and $20 for the cd player side hire harness (and as far as i know...comes with the cd player) and then another $30 for the dash kit. then a fee to install it

and they used the same stuff as sears sells.

the only thing idunno know about is the need to rewire, maybe jim will chime in on that part

A wiring kit should only be around $15. Another $15 for the DIN adaptor. If you have BOSE, then another $70 for that adaptor.

there is a good chance that you could do it your self with a dash adapter and a wiring harness and save $$$$$$

that is the truth.

You crazy????????????

Man do it your self. The dash adapter to install the deck it self will run you $20 dollars at the most at wal-mart, then you get a schosce painless wiring adapter for $15. You are done. The box for the deck install kit has the instruction in it, and the wiring harness adapter has the instructions in it. Just un hook the positive battery cable, so you don't shock your self. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't have the Bose system so I guess that guy was just full of crap. I am just gonna get it done at Best Buy because they install it for free and I had a friend get it done there and he was really happy with it. Thanks for the input.
