Ever heard of this brand of amp?
Has anyone ever heard of Lanzar amps? I found a 400x2 watt Lanzar amp on ebay for $88, is it worth it or just a cheap amp I wouldn't want to waste money on?

it seems like it's a hit or miss type thing (alot say they suck but some say they work good). i have a pyramid PB580 800 watt. i got it off a guy at work and he had it pushing 2 12's then 2 JL 10's and now i have it on a RF 1518 15in sub. the sub is only 150 rms. and the amp is 800 peak, but it has a 20 amp fuse. and i heard somewhere u take what fuse it has times it by 10 and that's what the rms is of the amp.
so this 800 watt with a 20amp fuse, 20x10=200 watts rms, would that be true? the amp is doing good for me. so i'm happy

I wouldn't waste the coin on the Lanzar. Walmart carries Pioneer now (okay well for the past few years), but you'd probably get a better amp for the same price if you got a brand name.
Save that $88, turn it into $150, and buy an amp that you'll be happy with for longer than a week. Hell I bet you can find real name amps on eBay for $88! Try doing searches on google.com with the amp name and model number- see what the amps sold for "as new".

i use to run lanzar amps are they work great other then they did not bridge but other then that they where fine and i had them for several years before selling them to a friend whe still runs them to this day.
lanzar is widely considered low end stuff. They used to be VERY good back in the day when they were still Manufactured here under another company, but since them taken a dive.you can get better stuff for around the same price..I.e. JBL,some Clarion or even Lightning audio (which is atleast made by fosgate)

Lanzar was purchased by a parent company called Sound Around a while back. Same with Pyramid, Legacy, Pyle and Pyle Pro. Since then, people associate Lanzar with Pyramid, and I'm not sure why. VW owns Porsche, right? does that diminish the Porsches status? Lexus and Toyota? Infiniti and Nissan? you see my point.
Dollar for dollar, the Lanzar product is solid. Again, the opti stuff is very nice, you won't be disappointed. As a whole, they cater to "consumer" types and their very broad line of inexpensive gear shows that.
BTW, JBL and Clarion both make low-end product, much the same as Lanzar does. I won't even go onto Lightning (cough)
I guess when you're armed with all the facts, you can make a good buying decision. bmoney

I'd tend to agree. I do car audio installation for a living and although I have limited experience with lanzar amps, as I've only installed maybe 15 - 20, I've never really been very impressed with the quality.

And not all brands are equal. There are big names that make crap (Sony) and no-names that make good stuff. Two PCBs that look the same at first sight can have big differences in build quality, the devils in the details. Something as small as the diameter of the holes for the discrete parts can play a BIG roll in reliability. And the lower end units will use a part to it's max. If transistor A is rated at 10A they'll run 9A though it full time. A high end unit may use a transistor rated at 15A in the same situation, both parts look the exact same. There's a lot more then this to it as well. Parts placement, how the power devices are mounted to the heat sink and so on.

Rule of thumb that applies to electronics... you get what you pay for. There are many good brands now that offer really crappy stuff (Rockford Fosgates bottom line is horrendous, same with Pioneer, etc.)
Save the $$ and get something that will last longer, put out more power, and not distort!!

Audi is owned by VW, Porsche and VW have some family ties in ownership, but nothing more.
Lanzar use to be a very high profile line, with lots of competitors using it and it doing well in competition.
With that said, Lanzar has dropped in status, in price points. Still a good budget line, but back in the day they were considered on par with Rockford, Orion and PPI. Not anymore.
Its not the Lanzar of old, but then again, it isn't on par with some of the other brands Sounds Around owns now.

very interesting. I've been selling Lanzar product for years, with great luck and success. The Opti line is as substantial as anything that Rockford would make, bar none.

Not always the case. Monster Cable just paid to rename Candlestick Park in San Francisco "Monster Park". Are you getting all the cable you paid for when you buy Monster? Or are you paying some for cable, and alot for marketing that includes naming a stadium.

Well, to an extent I mean. I guess the best thing about crappy audio is at least you aren't paying for the name!! lol
I'm just going from experience here. I've seen many amps and speakers from the "sub-par" companies, totally dead, or sounding like they should be.

Very true. I bought Monster cable the first time for my system, and paid about $80 for it! Everytime after that, I have gone to WalMart and bought Schoche or whatever for $25... and it's exactly the same. When it comes to wire, wire is wire!!

Wire may be wire, but I'd rather have some kind of RFI-preventing technology in the wire instead of just two wires side-by-side (as in the case of the Radio Shack Specials). I always say to spend $30 on a set of RCA's for the car- so $25 is in the range. I never want to see someone use an $8 set of 20-foot RCA's. And on the other side of the coin, you'll never see me tell someone to spend $80! (That's why I like eBay; those closeouts of "last-years-color" RCA's go for cheap!!)
And I agree with money being the key factor of an amp. If you see an amp for $100 that does 2000 watts, and another $100 amp that only does 60 watts- the 60 watt amp is the better buy. If it sounds too good to be true, as far as car amps go, it is. I never owned a 400 watt amp- but I'll bet that my 20x4 Blaupunkt will kick that 400 watt Lanzar's butt!
To settle the Lanzar arguement, what is the model number for that 400 watt bad-boy?

lanzar and 2000 watt shouldnt be in teh same sentence..i'd put my lil 620 watt eclipse against that, and own it...i know prices on this stuff have dropped..but the old rule used to be if it's what it says it is, expect to pay between $.50 - $1.00 / watt..class d should be closer to a 1.00/watt..lesser should obviously be a lil less...in terms of rca's, i pay 30-45 per set..because for that long of a run, i wanan know those wires are good quality, shielded wires..not some crap 22 gauge crap that barely has any insulation, and the worst ends known to man
