Serious sound problem - rattle!!! Seriously!!

I have just finished installing my kenwood 4channel amp in my 84 z28, when i cranked it up I herd some rattling from inside the car, this was strange because I dynamatted everywhere (the front and back of the bracket the 6x9 goes into and the entire enclosure behinde it. The rattling from the outside, was horrible... more like unbelieveable. And it is all coming from this little "vent-like-thing that screws into the speaker enclosure.
Im not sure if you guys know what im talking about, im talking about that thing that when you open your door on either side there is a vent with flaps that lets air into the speaker enclosure.

Has anyone ever had this problem, does anyone know what this vent does, does anyone know how to solve it?

Thank you so much.

when you pulled them out, what did you put in their place?
Do you have any idea why they would be there, cause they rele make my kappa's sound like junk - expecially from the outside.

Those vent doo-ma-hickeys in the rear body lock pillar area is part of the flow-through ventilation system that provides fresh air into the car when you're zooming down the highway when yo' windows are rolled up. Defeating it could cause you to pass out from lack of oxygen resulting in possible injury or death, or worse, hurting your car.

Yeah, i was just kiddin'. It is part of the ventilation system though (it's explained in the owners manual). I'm sure there's plenty of places for fresh air to enter/exit our 3rd gens though, so it probably won't do any harm to block them off. But if you're going on a long trip, you might want to notify your next of kin, you know, just in case...

i didnt want to leave them open because i figured it would make it a ported type enclosure instead of a sealed one. I was thinking about just sealing it up with a piece of cardboard and dynamating it.

the way its constructed, it has many flaps on it that will allow air out. when the windows are closed, air flows into the front air inlet grilles, through the car and out these "exhaust valves".

It's not for the 6x9s.
Look at your door, the door seal is on the inboard side door. So the vent is in the door jamb, but not sealed from the outside air. It's job isn't to have a high flow of air or equalize large air pressure differences, but just to allow for some ventilation.

The 6x9's are surrounded by a fiber enclosure, this enclosure also has a little "bass port" that aims towards the rear of the car. The 6x9's are probably making enough air thru that port so it's disturbing the door-jam-vent.

My vote is to pull the 6x9's out, and slap a piece of Dynomat over that fake-bass-port hole. You'll have to reach inside the 6x9 compartment a bit to find the hole, tho.
