Electrolysis from main power wire.....

Electrolysis from main power wire.....
I am using this pic from my sunbird as an example. What causes this?? I don't want this to happen when I put a decent stereo in my camaro. Here is what I am talking about....

Dude, Paul is explaining, he gave you a picture. That white powder is what he's talking about. It's around battery connections too. He wants to make sure that if he puts power wires all over his Camaro for his next whopper system that the white powder issue doesn't happen down the road and start rusting his Camaro like it's happening to his Sunbird. 
Paul, I can't really help you, except to say that I haven't seen that problem before... except on batteries where electrolyte had dried and turned to powder. But I can't figure out why it would be happening in the area of your picture. Maybe the cable had a nick in it, the area was wet, and was grounding out a little on the floor and then dried up in the summer and the electrolyte that was there turned to powder?

it usually happens near the battery becasue of high current and the atmosphere and crap like that, cant really remember my physics quite now

I've never seen that inside a car unless the battery was nearby.
Usually you get that crap around power & ground terminals because the charge pulls the acid fumes out of the air. Inside my car, I've never had anything except the typical corrosion that age and humidity causes.

Id be very careful.....You dont want your car to burn down cuz theres nicks in your power wire....Ive only seen it around the battery connection also. But Id double check that wire before something bad happens.

What could also cause that are two dis-similar metals in contact with each other. But man I've never seen a case involving a power wire like that..

That's no battery problem! That's what's left over from the previous owner, everyone's favorite crack dealer!
