Rockford P4004
I just went for an impulse buy here, yesterday I was at a car audio store and they had their last demo unit of this model on a shelf for something like 75% off from retail, so I snagged it. Unfortunately it didn't come with a box or the specs sheet.
I've never personally ran a Rockford amp, but from what i've heard they've always put out significantly more then their rating, this is rated at 50Wx4RMS @ 4ohms, and the amp is pretty damn big for that rating (size wise), and has 60A of fusing....
Does anyone have one of these units? know a guy who knows a guy perhaps? I'd just like a little firsthand knowledge if anyone has any of this amp or a similar rockford model...perhaps what I should be expecting powerwise?
Thanks for any input -J

Maybe 65-70 watts a channel at 4 ohm 14.4v input. Since this is a new model, contact RF and give them the serial number to see if the have the birthsheet on file. I know you could look up PG amps, maybe RF offers the same service.

you think they underrate their amps?
*scoff*
If this amp goes by rockford's history... it puts out, what, half of it's rating?
My friend has a Rockford 1000D monoblock amp.... puts out literally less than my 640RMS 4channel class A/B amplifier... (which I really doubt it puts out that much power either...)
I bet that 1000D puts out a little over half of it's rated power... which is sad, at least in my book.
All that out of the way, if you are just using it to power tiny little speakers, you should be good... When I was buying a 4-channel amp, I made sure I'd have at least 100w per channel, so that in the future I could put some real speakers on it.

ahem, well i'm not a moron, I'm not going by the part #, ie. 1000D and hoping it'll put out 1000W RMS. This amp is rated at 1000W..... MAX!
It rates it as 50Wx4 @4ohms RMS, 100W x4 @ 2ohms, so, if it puts out 400W RMS grand total, it's being truthful (not to it's max power, but NOBODY believes that crap...) I think it'll put out more than 400W RMS however, because usually rockford underrates their amps, in that sense. And, 60A of fusing is usually a good indication...
I think the 1000D is rated at 500W RMS... But yea, I'm not a fan of their rating scheme, and their overpricing their amps, but this one was a demo model, and a bargain, and was a better deal than I could hope for on Ebay (shipping to canada, customs etc. etc.)....

I was meaning to ask you Scrapmaker: Your speaker setup is identical to what I wanted to get, Infinity Kappa plates in the front and blau overdrive in the rears... Well, one of my ideas...
Anyway, do the blau overdrives still have DVC's? I heard they changed that in their newer models (if they still exist.)
Are they any good?

I have never heard a set of components that sound better than my blaupunkts, if that is an answer you are willing to accept. If I had some way of mounting them in the kickpanels, I would.
I can crank my amp to about 120 watts, (guestimation-style) per woofer, without any kind of distortion(HPF@80hz)... and these things are 94db sensitive... loud is not even a close description for these babies.
They are expensive as hell though, or at least they were.
the best part about them is they are DVC(the main woofer)... although I hook mine up together to make a 2ohm load, you can separate the signal to the speaker... one for just the woofer, and the other for the woofer and the rest.
this way if you have some cheap-o 2ch 100w amp laying around, you can bassify these things like crazy, while still using the headunit to power the other voicecoil.... awesome idea if you ask me.
These are my beasts... they weigh nearly 10 pounds
Uh, these are the new ones... = suck
they are NOT DVC... so you may want to check on ebay... plus they are only 92db sensitive... if you care.

and they got rid of the AIP Aluminum-Injected Plastic cone... I think that's better.
also, if you find the black one from last year, that sucks too..
you have to get the shiny one.

No I believe, i've heard great things about them, and that was why I wanted them, the DVC feature sounded very cool. Them and the Soundstream 2 ohm 6x9s were my picks, or the Ultimate 8" woofer 6x9, but not sure about mounting...
Yea, that's what I figured, they went downhill... So you're saying the 2 years old model is the one i'd want, if I could find one? Or last years shiny but not black one? I'll keep my eyes open to ebay and whatnot...

I think the 2yr-old one is the only shiny one... but I don't know...
just make sure it has a huge-*** magnet, and DVC... you'll be good to go.

I thought that's what they have when they bench test every amp from the factory, and it's a proven record of how much power is put out after putting in a certain input voltage and signal.... That's why some have like 217W (a non rounded #)....
Just a guess, i've never actually seen one to be honest...
