where in firewall to poke power wire??
i just got some new subs and amp and i need to know the best spot in the firewall to poke the power wire through to get it down into the car. i will be using a sony 1200 watt 2 channel amp and two lightning audio 12"s. ya i know nobody really likes this stuff but i got a hell of a deal on it so im using it. the guy who had this stuff b4 me had them in a blazer and knocked a bottle off the roof from all the roof flex.
well since the battery is on the passenger side, thats where i always run my wire, as to where to drill through the firewall, i just pull the carpet down (it stops right where the dash starts) and drill through there. Remember to use a grommet to prevent wire from getting cut/exposed to anything harmful)
to find the hole from under the hood, i like to have a friend shine a light from the floorboard............

If you have a car with the passenger-side battery, then drilling a hole through the kick panel area right near the antenna wire is the best spot I've found. On cars with the battery on the driver side, I typically drill a hole in the firewall right below the clutch master cylinder. This is an especially nice location on automatic cars.

4 years ago Best Buy installed my amp and drilled the whole near the master cylinder... but the power wire is dangerously-close to the steering column... I need to do some more securing to make it safe.... as far as I can tell it's never rubbed before, but that's not good enough for me.

I have an amazing system, but it's hindered by the dashboard for my plates, and I can't stand vibrations, so I have the bass almost all the way down...
I guess in the long run, those vibrations are going to save my hearing. If I didn't have those annoying sounds, I'd be blasting my stereo all day long.

I ran my power wire behind the passenger side kick panle(where the computer wires run to the engine. there was a hole right next to the loom. so i ran my 4Ga right thourgh it and up the fender all the way to the battery.

if you are convinced you want to use the stock 4x6 location, I'd say they are the best money can buy... but from my experience with them, I'd highly recommend you go the kickpanel route.
the dashboard speaker grille actually blocks about half of the tweeter on these plates, on a firebird that is.

I'd take the kappa plates over those any day... but if you want better stereo separation and overall higher quality, go with kappa perfect 6.5" components in the kickpanels.

I have a hole in the firewall that is above the brake pedal, and below the master cylinder that fits my 2AWG wire... and I think it was there from the factory.

I ran 1AWG down the driver's side, and it fit... snug but it fit... for me there was a plastic conduit that ran all the way from the kickpanels to the sailpanels. My wire was so stout that I just pushed it all the way through, since there was extra space in that conduit/wire loom.
good luck, and if it comes down to it, you can always just run the wire under the car. If it's done properly, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

whew i dont know if i would want to try and run it under my car... but i ran 4 gauge wire all the way through mine and it was a b**** so 0/1 garge would suck. especially trying to hide the wire under the carpet behind the back seat.

i had no trouble running the 4 gauge. took me a couple minutes to get it tucked in nice under the padding by the seatbelt pullback mechanism but other than that was easy. THINK i'll be ok with the 0/1 gauge, but if not i got 20 feet for 20 bucks so who cares, can sell it for more than that, and get 2 gauge.

seriously, after you pull off the plastic runners along the driver's side, peel away the carpet... then keep peeling... I never noticed this, even AFTER I had already ran 4AWG before... I found the wire loom/conduit when I decided to run 1AWG and it was a ***-send.

same here on my firebird... you just have to watch the power wire and make sure it doesn't get pinched by the steering column...
