NEed help on car audio
OK well I'm buying my first car and its a 91 Camaro RS. I've only been looking into audio and car stuff for about 2 months. So, i dont know too much. Questions I'm asking:
1. What should i include in my car audio?(speakers, amps, AND subs or just some)
2. how many of each?
3. What brands are good?
4. Where would i put the subs?
I'm hoping to spend aroun 300 total for a pretty nice system that can put out some pretty awesome bass if you know any goods sites that would help too thanks my aim: ljsplaya26 email: kariya762@hotmail.com

Replace your stock speakers (dash is 4x6" and rears are 6x9"), get subs if you want bass (then you need an amp) and get a good deck. $300 won't even get you close to a full setup unless you get all POS stuff. Stick the sub(s) in the rear hatch area.

i would go little by little. deck first. then rear 6X9 or 6" drivers. (no components in the rear, you wont notice the tweeters back there anyway and less you spend major bank on them, this will save cash.) then front 4" components (components meaning 4" driver and 1 inch tweeter) or 4X6 two way (recomend the components) then subs and amps.

well a good deck will cost close to 300.00 alpine, eclipse, clarion are some good brands. As for 4-6s you could look into kappa plates or I think boston acoustics makes some good ones too. 6-9s arent as important but kappa/BA is prolly a good choice here too. After this I would setup for a sub or two. Do not put a baffle board in.(piece of wood.) build or buy a box for the hatch/well. Usually around 200.00 for a good box. Less if u build it. One sub can hit just as good as 2 or 3 subs. Just get a good quality sub and amp. JL, JBL, Alpine, Phoenix gold, Image dynamics, RE are some good brands. Amp for your stock speakers should be 4-channel.
Oh you wont find a setup for 300.00 save your money or buy piece by piece..
Headunit---
Speakers---
subs/amp---
amp for stock location speakers---
start contimplating kick panels if u dont stretch ur legs out.

eck, even a deck for $300 is kinda cheap... let alone an entire system...
you're most likely looking at $300 for each portion
$300 - headunit
$300 - 4 speakers
$300 - subs
$300 - subwoofer amplifier
$300 - IF you want a 4ch amplifier....
$1200-$1500 will get you a decent system...

I just helped the guys find all the problems in their software... more of beta testing... to the point where I hate the software now! (shhhh)
I'd like it again if I had a MIDP 2.0 or AAC phone... I want high-quality stereo, damnit!

Start with a nice head unit Alpine makes some great quality units. Then go for some new dash, rears, and maybe a sub, subs. Crutchfield has some great ideas. Go to crutchfield.com
$300 - headunit
$300 - 4 speakers
$300 - subs
$300 - subwoofer amplifier

i admit $300 dollars is a bit low for sub(s)/amp(s)/speakers/deck
however $300 is a bit high for everything APIECE.
i would start out by getting every piece individually (or just save up more money)
for $300 you could hit up profileusa.com (look at their online store for their amps, i just bought 2 for $80 shipped)
thezeb.com is having a special on kicke comp subs (not great compared to other subs, but definetaly not bad at all for the price)
or u could just get (1) more expensive sub instead of 2 less expensive subs.
i like shopping at etronics.com, ikesound.com thezeb.com and weldingsupply.com (for wire, it's ubercheap)
here's what i would suggest.......
deck: Lower end pioneer, kenwood $100-150
speakers: pioneer, power acoustik, lower end kicker $40-70
sub(s): pioneer (305/6dc) 2 for 1 kicker comp deal $60 for the pioneer (very good sub for the price) or $100+shipping for the comp deal i think
amp: profileusa.com, they're selling refurbished amps from the previous years and for the price you can't beat them $40-70 shipped depending on the modes you get.
like i said you should save up more money, but for $300 you can't expect earth shattering bass, but you can get a good budget system. but i'm sorry $1200-1500 for a DECENT system is outrageous

I was referring to real retail prices... of course on warranty-less websites you will pay less... and for refurbished stuff, even less... but who wants to take a risk on something like that?
okay so that may have been a little high... let me try again.
$250-$300 for a headunit --- if you want a solid reputable mp3 unit...
$300 for a solid 600-1000wrms monoblock amplifier
$200-$300 for a cheapo 4ch... (the normal mid-grade amps run $400 or more)
$50-$150 for decent to exceptional 4x6 speakers/plates
$75-$200 for cheap to amazing 6x9s
$150-$500 for walmart subs to comp subs...
$100-$200 for wiring, adapters, plates, connectors, etc...
So if you went with even really cheap-o stuff, you'd still spend over a grand...
you can save money and skip the four channel, or get some BASIC headunit which lacks many features and quality RCA output... along with almost every other important feature.... those run like $150, as traksta already pointed out.
good luck, and no matter what you buy, you will not spend less than $900 or so... so do what everyone suggests... start off slow, maybe just replace the headunit first... that's probably going to be your biggest improvement, as many now come with great built-in amplifiers... the p80 from pioneer has a 27rms x 4 built-in mosfet amp. that's AMAZING for a headunit... panasonic released one with 31wrms (CQ-C9901U)
