Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
your front speakers are were you hear all the details in the songs , the front stage is more importan then the back stage , you could delete the 6x9's would be a better choice , i also got some kick panel comp's and i COULD take the 4x6's out if i wanted but they sound good with them

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
I removed my dash speakers in favor of components in the kick panels. The sound stage is much better than with the sound bouncing off the windshield but I still think it sounded good. Another thing was that it was difficult to find good dash speakers that fit a Firebird dash (don't know if the Camaro is like this) but for some reason the instrument cluster causes interference with certain 4x6 speakers. I tried both plate versions and standard cone types and still had a hard time finding some. I finally found some Kenwoods that fit and sounded pretty good but at that time I was ready to step up to components. Haven't regretted it.

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
i want te get some new spekers, 5 1/2 pioneer or MB quarts and was thinking of putting them in the dash, i have some 12" pioneer subs laying around in my room, they bin there for the last year or so and i'm going to put them in the back somwhere. i'm going to ditch the kenwood stereo i have right now and get a new pioneer cd mp3 player.
Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
I put 5.25" Alpine speakers in my dash and I love them.
I made some custom brackets for them but with that size of speaker you can take your stock speaker brackets out and just put the speakers in about the same place where your stock brackets where and the top of the dash will hold them in place and they will still sound very good.

I now get some very clean sound from under the dash and it makes a world of difference.
As long as you replace those factory speakers with good speakers then you will be happy with the results

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
I removed the dash speakers when I had components in the kick panels, tried 3 different set-ups, couldn't stand the loss of footwell room even with the Infinity 5.25" mids mounted flush against the metal behind the kick panel (manual car). For my new set-up I installed the tweeters in the a-pillar trim bases (molded in, looks factory) and am modifying the I/P opening in the dash to mount the mids. The passenger side had enough depth for these speakers but I was 1/4" to shallow on the drivers side. Easy modification, just need to adapt the speaker brackets to hold the mids.

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
I just put sony 5.25''s in my gta i had to trim the area around the opening on the driver side and the passenger side i had no problems, now on the drivers side i didnt bolt it in and on the passenger side i could only use one screw but the dash pad itself holds them in without any vibrations or problems at all, you just have to make sure the magnet on the speaker isnt to big or it will hit the ac duct or the dash..
Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
Go to circuit city and they will hook you up. I have a set of pioneers that were a drop in replacement in my bird. The look stock but handle alot more power. Put in some bass blockers and a nic sub in the back and you will love it.

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
crutchfield.com has them , work great (bass blockers)
you would need to fab up your front brackets to accept 5.25's if i am not mistaken

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
Bass blockers from Crutchfield, way overpriced for what the part actually is, can be bought at most electronic stores.
Pioneer, good speakers ? Sure for the very first step up from factory, sure. But once you install a subwoofer, and you want more clarity, nope not Pioneer.

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
I used the stock 4x6 spots in the dash to mount the crossovers for the components in the kick panel pods i built. front speakers are a must, but if you can afford it, get some kick panel enclosures and put a set of componenets in. night and day difference.

I used a single 10 inch Infinity in my own box. You could go with Ascendant Audio subs. Depends whether you want sound quality or just BOOOOM BOOOM.

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
there's just not enough room in the dash for a good set of components. the stock spots on these cars arent the greatest if you're looking to upgrade the sound. I just mounted the crossover in dash, the speakers were in the door and fiberglass kick pods i made.

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
I'm running a pair of 4x6 pioneers off the amp from my headunit (Pioneer DEH-7800MP) and they don't need any bass blocking. If you've got a decent headunit you're probably throwing away money on the bass blockers... I'd put the system together and see if you need the blockers before dropping a chunk of change on them.

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
My 4x6's are 100W/20RMS, basically the older version of these: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=11977 I don't listen to music all that loud, maybe up to 100-110 dB at most so my experience may vary from some of you... but like I said before, it's probably worth testing without bass blockers first just to see if you need them.

OMG, I haven't seen a Pioneer IMPP that looked like that since I was in high school. Two 12s sounded so good. Till I found JL AUdio. Then two 12s sounded even better. Ran them off an Autotek 44 watt, yes I said 44 watt, competition amp. That is still the most amazing amp I have ever come in contact with.
Now I just run a single JL Audio 10 off 300 watts. I wouldn't say it's as loud because the bass doesn't make my chest hurt but, it's certainly loud enough and very clean and tight. That has a lot to do with tuning oyur system though.
The caps are the same thing everyone else was talking about when they said bass blockers. It looks like a cylinder wrapped in vynal with two stiff wires coming out of each end. They all block out different frequencies though so, you need to choose wisely. Having an amp will prevent the need for these. I would try to get one that's going to block anything below 60 - 70 mHz. It all depends on how high of a frequency you let into your subwoofer through the crossover built into the amp. They need to match closely to the sub cutoff or, you're going to have a gap in your audio playback.
Good speakers should be able to handle a 60 mHz playback because, with a good sub and amp you shouldn't need to have the bass cranked up on the head unit.

Yea I'm half alien so I have hearing beyond you full blooded earthlings lol.
What subs are you wanting to run 450 watts to? Is that peak or RMS? How many subs?
I'm rather fond of MTX these days. The Thunder TC3001 I have pushes 300 watts a 2ohm load to my DVC JL AUdio w12v3. It actually pushes more than that. The amp is rated at 300 RMS but, it tested at 350 watts RMS. My amp is discontinued though. It's also very small and compact. You might be able to find something in that series on clearance somewhere or online at a good price instead of purchasing the large and bulky model that replaces it.

Re: did you deleted your dash speakers?
Delete them. If you replace them with kick panels that have components speakers you will obtain better sound from your set up. If you havent already noticed it sounds like most of your music is coming from the left. well our cars unfortunately have poor speaker placement. that speaker right in front of your forces you to hear that speaker first and loudest by moving the speakers down to the kick panels you change the distance ration to your ears allowing for a more encompassing audio experience. Also the tiny speakers in the dash are not made to handle bass so they will tend to blow out unless you set up bass blockers on them or and eq or you have a deck that will allow you take the bass off of the front speakers or all speakers and only run bass to a subs. all in all the 4x6's suck and cant handle much bass because the coil will over heat. if i had known i wouldnt have bought them cuz now i pretty much have 4x6 tweeters
