Problems with Blitz speakers...

My husband and I are trying to put a set of Blitz Audio speakers into his '86 Trans Am. He picked up a set of BZX-462 4"x6" 2-way. Unfortunately these speakers didn't come with any directions. Speakers are pretty straight forward, but these have an LED in them. According to the box the LED's are supposed to light up with operation. The speakers only have one set of terminals, a "+" and a "-". When we hooked up the speakers we got great sound, but no LED's. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

Do you seriously need the LEDs to light up? =P

I'm thinking something is disconnected between the LEDs and the speaker connections. Could be a bad pair of speakers (concerning the LEDs).

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

The blue LED's were the reason why he got these speakers, so I would say yes. It's definitely something different. The rear speakers he found had a separate connection for the LED's, which I like much better. They can be switched on and off whenever you want. Unfortunately, that brand doesn't make them in the 4x6 size. If they had, we would have gotten those.

As for being a bad set of speakers LED-wise, that's what I thought too. If no one else has any ideas I guess we'll have to return them.

Thanks.

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

It could just be a short somewhere, but I googled it and found one or two similar situations.

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

they are not a company with great reliability, but if they don't have a terminal for the led, then it probably will flash with the bass. Have you checked hifonics they have some with leds?

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

So we have noticed. My husband tried turning up the bass, along with a few other things, but nothing. Hifonics are a larger sized speaker than we're looking for. Neither of us saw any 4 x 6's. We do have some other ideas. Thank you very much for all of your help and suggestions.

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

The LEDs will light up solid if 1st the proper resistor is in-line, witch it should be from the factory and 2nd if there is a terminal seperate for them and connected to 12Volts DC...ignition or deck remote output preferrably. They will dim/flash if connected to the speaker output which is AC (alternating current). Also keep in mind that the LEDs are polarity sensitive. They dont work if the neg is hooked to the pos and pos to the neg. Did you just cut and guess the speaker terminals or use a adapter? Metra makes the OEM to Aftermarket adapter. I can tell you that the Front Left is Gray + and Tan - , Front Right is DkGreen + and LtGreen - , Rear Left is Yellow + and Brown - , and lastly Rear Right is LtBlue + and DkBlue -. Having all speakers in-phase with each other by correct polarity will improve the sound and perform the best. Check this reguardless.

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

Hi, this is Cecil255, Deardreamer's husband and owner of the 86 Trans Am in question.

The speakers have only one set of terminals, those being of course for the audio. The speakers are advertised on the box as having the LEDs "light up during operation", so that leads me to believe they are of the AC current kind. I know LEDs powered by AC are going to be dimmer than by DC, but we're getting nothing at all, no matter how loud and thumping the speakers are.

As for the wire colors, we know which colors are to which speaker. What we had trouble with was which was the pos and which was the neg for each pair.

If someone knows, could you please tell us?

Thank you,

Cecil255

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

my post shows you EXACTLY which wire is positive and negative for eash speaker. Make sure if you out in an aftermarket deck, they are correct there as well. Try hooking up a 9-volt battery to the speaker terminal for a second. POS to POS and NEG to NEG. If they arent defective the cone should move outward and the LED should light up. A second os 9v DC will not hurt it.

Sorry, I see it now. I mis-read the thread earlier (tis what happens when you work deep into the wee morning hours and try to read).

Thank you for all your suggestions and contributions of help.

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

I hope you got it figured it out...I was able to very easily and successfully add red LEDs to my Subs and amp in the back so now you can better "see" the music... I also have LEDs inside my dash air vents, tomorrow I'm going to hook those up to the speakers on my dash so those can pulsate to music...

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

The trouble I'm running into right now is keeping the right side low enough to put the dash pad back in. As we all know the drivers side can be a pain.

I like your car HCR13. How did you get the red LED's into your amps and subs? It's an idea I've had for a little while.

We did finally get the speakers to light. The LED wires were VERY poorly soldered to the speaker terminals. When we separated them, the diodes on the positives literally snapped right off. We got some new diodes from Radio Shack and independently wired the LEDs to their own switch. Below are the results, day and night. Thanks to everyone who helped!

Re: Problems with Blitz speakers...

awesome. I bought a pack of 4 12v LEDs from Autoparts store and I simply connected one LED to the (+) and (-) of the sub. The Sub is ratted at 1000w so its more than enough to light it up. I have some in my air vents too, I tried hooking those up to my upfront speakers, but my upfront speakers don't make enough power to light them up, so they'll stay steadily lit for now....I also put a LED festoon bulb inside the amplifier. I'll have to take a pic of the setup
