stock speakers

What is the size of stock speakers in a 92 camaro I was going to put in aftermarket speakers. And what would be the best to fit in the stock place?

Re: stock speakers

take care in picking the 4x6s. many on the are too deep. Check the mounting depth for your year car before buying. Many of the better speakers have larger magnets that don't fit.
Some people have still used such speakers by putting spacer rings in . Sometimes haveing to cut out material on the underside of the dash pad.
Crutchfield used to publish this data. Bosch makes a book that will tell you. but it is expensive for doing just one install. You could measure it yourself. I wnet to Crutchfield and looked at the speakers that fit my car and noted the depth of those. then I looked at the speakers that they didn't recommend to see what depth didn't fit. This gave me a close approximation of what would fit mine.

Re: stock speakers

You can also get 3-4" 2ways that are made into a 4x6 plate mount. Or 4x6 components and mount the tweeter on the pillars.

Re: stock speakers

i used to have pioneer 4x6 3 way speakers up front in my last car. they were quite awesome actually. i paid $100 for a pair. they were on sale. they were on a different car tho. but they didnt have to deep of magnet or anything like that from what i can remember.

im in the process of looking on what type of 6x9 speakers.
i like the 3 way speakers best but thats my opinion anyways.

Re: stock speakers

^^I have those 3 way pioneers in my Firebird right now, got em for 40 though ...they kind of suck

I've heard of 5.25 inch speakers in there, when I have some extra cash I'll take some measurements and do some cutting to see if I can pull those off in the front. It would be a million times better. Imagine this, 5.25 inch CDT components up front running at 200 watts rms each, then topped off by 2 12's (brand/type undecided) behind the front seats in a fiberglass enclosure running at 600 watts rms each...

As for the rear speakers, well I plan to do away with mine, but I would go with some 6.5 inch speakers for there.

Re: stock speakers

For your speakers you are gonna want to get some nice Plate 4x6 speakers.

And for your rears I would go with some nice 6.5 midbass drivers.
You can easily fit the 6.5's with a 6.5 to 6x9 adapter.

Get these..

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ker+SSMB6.html

REMEMBER. All of this can be found on ebay for MUCH much cheaper.

Hope this helps you out! I use this setup in my car, and I love it!

Re: stock speakers

have you guys every tryed using 6x9 speaker boxes? how do they sound? i was thinking of getting good set of speakers and get some speaker boxes for them. the speaker inclosure in the pannels in the car are all torn and riped into shred. dont ask why but they were.
im wonder what to do about that.

i was thinking of mounted them on the top of the fuel tank hump. right behind the passenger seats.

Re: stock speakers

To be honest with you, your 6x9's are very overrated.

If you want good sound quality I would get some nice 6.5 midbass speakers.

Like these...

You can probably find some kick panels for them too, and just put them in the front, along with your 4x6's.

Re: stock speakers

i will probably get some 6.5 for the rear. i been hearing alot about 6.5 being really good sounding speakers.

i was reading someone put a 5.1 surround in there car. that was an interesting write up. having a speaker up in the middle of the car.
it was in a fiero but similar to are cars. just camaros are bigger haha.

im not looking to go into any crazy sound compitions or blasting my ears till the bleed eather.
something with good sounds better then the stock. somthing more crisp and clear.
what about subwoofers? i hear 12s are abit much for a nice crisp sound. 12 tends to be alittle muddy. what are your words on that?

sorry for kinda stealing this thread. ill give it back now

Re: stock speakers

I went with infinitiy 6x9's for the rear and pioneer 4x6 for the front? I had infinitiy's for the front but the mag and base was to thick to fit. It hit the air ducking in the dash?

Re: stock speakers

It sounds good? I install home audio and, the car audio is basicly the same way. You just have to run the right size wires, and run a good ground. What i mean by right size wires is take all the stock wires out. And run a good size guage wire?
