headunit power

hey guys, I got a new sound system, but the head unit came with no power cables? I have no idea what im looking for, so if any of you could help me out that would be great. What does the headunit power receptacle in the back of the head unit usually look like?

thanks

Re: headunit power

do you mean the plug with all the wires coming out? if so, you should have a ground wire in thre( thick black wire with a little fork on the end of it, you have to put that under a bolt then tighten it against metal

Re: headunit power

every manufacturer is going to be different (even sometimes within the same brands there are changes); make sure you're getting the right pigtail for your deck or you'll be back to square one.

Re: headunit power

I am positive the one I listed above it the right one, its a clarion deck an the plug looks exactly the same as the pic. Would I splice and solder the wires from the old stock radio cables to this new connector or what? And what is the little black square plug on the back on the pic? Is that for the satalite radio? the manual says its for the CeNet cable whatever that is..

Re: headunit power

if you don't want to have to redo the wiring in your car every time you get a new radio, your best bet is to get an installation pig tail. then you can solder / crimp the radio harness to the installation harness and then just plug the installation harness into the stock wiring.

Re: headunit power

I have no problem with rewiring at this point. I just need to know what has to be done and how to get this headunit to work. Do you have any pics of one of these pigtails?

Re: headunit power

So you take one of those that you posted, and splice it with the clarion one?

Re: headunit power

yes - the clarion adapter should have a plug on one end (to go into the radio) and bare wires on the other. the bare wires on that connector need to be attached to the bare wires on this adapter. this installation adapter will plug into the factory wiring.

Re: headunit power

Are the wires all color coded to know which wire attach to which?

Re: headunit power

they should all be color coordinated, but pay attention to the owners manual ( if you dont have it, find it on clarion's website) and the instructions that come with the installation adapter.

One more question: i had the delco bose system with the speakers in the kick panels. If I plugged them into the new harness would they still work?
