Anybody have this Sony stereo?
I got this Sony stereo for christmas for my camaro. I'm just curious as to who may have used it, or has it installed in their car. If you do post pics!
It's the Sony Xplod CDX-GT250MP

I think it looks nice, I just need to find some type of mount that doesn't stick out so far! I hate that part, and I don't want to spend so much on a humount. Any ideas?

Im sure someone who has that same headunit will be able to help you more then me, I just made a custom one to fit my clarion one out of black komatex, which is like a black textured plastic. Dont know if that helps you much, but good luck, Im sure someone will be able to help you out.

Do you have any pics of how it mounts? That sounds like a good idea, I just don't know how these aftermarket radios mount in the humounts and stuff.

No I dont have any right now, buts its pretty much a straight piece of plastic going from one side of the old radio opening to the other, screwed to the old mounts. I will take some pics once I get it all completly installed

if you're looking for an inexpensive flush mount kit, do a search for scosche part number GM1516B. wont stick out like the generic gm kits, but you may have to do some trimming to the vents behind the radio and remove the metal bracket (but not as scary as it sounds).

Could anybody post the dimensions of the radio / heater bezel? Mainly the dimensions of the radio portion. How big the opening is and things like that. It would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Anybody have this Sony stereo?
I ordered that Scosche Kit, but I guess I ordered the Expediter kit by mistake, so it didn't come with any clips or brackets so I made my own!

Hopefully it will work. The metal pieces are lined up right where the brackets SHOULD have been. I just need to drill holes and trim the sides then mount it where it's supposed to be!

Thanks Ill be sure to post pics If i ever get a chance to get it mounted.
Re: Anybody have this Sony stereo?
Some of the mounting kits out there have provisions so you can bolt the OEM radio brackets right to the mount kit. The radio brackets were $1 each at the dealer when I ordered several sets a few years ago.
If you can take advantage of the post/hole setup that the stock radio worked it also helps to support the radio. In the back of the radio cavity there's a round hole. On the back of the stock radios, there's a long plastic post. The post slides in the hole to support the back of the radio. It keeps it from bouncing around and keeps CD's from skipping. The metal strap that comes with most head units can also be screwed to the back of the radio and wrapped under then screwed to the install kit, so it presses against the top of the trans tunnel when installed, also helps keep the radio from sagging in back and takes the weight off the plastic console. FWIW.

When I install it, i'll see how much it bounces around see what I can do to support it. These metal brackets I made thought hold it pretty well.

OH i see that now, and yeah this storm just ruins things for me. AS I've said before I don't keep the camaro where I live. It's about 20-30 minutes away. In the snow it would be maybe an hour or 2 away? haha

Those seats look nice! And no i don't even have a driveway. My camaro is in my uncle's back yard right now. I move it into the driveway to work but that's it, and it's a gravel driveway.

I need a new heater core. You must know how much of a PITA those can be. I'm going to pull off the whole dash to do it, since I dropped a couple screws and sockets down the Defroster vents.

Re: Anybody have this Sony stereo?
holy ***** that was such a pain because i use it everyday i needed to do it with the dash in there is one bolt on the top of the box that i needed to put my hand down through the speaker hole with a small 1/4" drive and a swivel socket with one dam hand. the neighbors were probably asking themselves what the hell is wrong with him so dam frustrating. Its nice just to be able to BS with somone around here is your car like a mid-level restoration because thats what i have just about every convenence item was dead and still needs more.

My car isn't actually too bad, you can check out my other thread in the appearance section. I just work on it until I get my license which was going to be Tuesday, but now that has to change. Then I can move it to warmer places to work.
Here's that thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...92-camaro.html

The read doesn't bother me actually. I'm going to keep it as stock as possible. So far only difference is the air cleaner, the chopped out AC and the radio(obviously).

Man that sounds awesome! My exhaust is pretty much stock except is has no muffler, but it sounds like it does. It has a nice sound when you get on it though. Nice job!

i looked at the vid of your car at the cardomain site it sounds mean too. one thing i like better about the gta is the dash and console they have a more integrated and smoother look than the camaro but i like both of them regardless

That video is just after we did the plugs and cap and rotor. And It hasn't warmed up yet. It's almost silent when it's warmed up. It warms up much quicker and runs better now that is has an actual air temp sensor. The previous owner used a paper clip in the plug to "trick" the ECM.

Yeah I just have to install that in the air cleaner and try to get to the fan switch to replace that since my fan won't turn on.

when you get the fan switch by a oem one dont buy into the cooler temp on ones made that mistake thinking cooler equals better and it started throwing engine lights for never reaching full temp

I bought one from autozone, as I read on here it's the most used one and it's been working. It's the SW500.
I think we've gotten a bit off topic here haha. We can move this convo over to the other thread I posted if your interested.

Alright. Here they are. Sorry it took so long to get them up. I was trying to find a camera. Unfortunately I don't have one. So my cell phone had to do the trick. Kinda bad quality. Anyway. What appears to be orange is red. But that gives you an idea...
