8inch speaker set ups ?

hey guys i'm building another camaro and I'm not going to be able to put as big of a system in it this time was wondering if any one had some pics of space saving systems for the hatch. i dont want to hide it as i like seeing the system but id like to keep it small enough for the room. i was thinking a single 8inch i'm just looking for a little bass to support the tunes. i'm going to have twin nitrous tanks and the battery in the hatch so any suggestions would be great.

thanks

Re: 8inch speaker set ups ?

I saw somebody that did two 10 inch shallow mounts on rear part of the hatch itself. Don't have any pics of it though, maybe somebody else knows where to get them? Otherwise enclosures can also be done where the spare tire and glovebox are located. Just depends upon where you plan on putting stuff and how creative you want to get with building material because you can do some pretty crazy stuff with fiberglass as opposed to regular mdf

if you're good with a saw, you can get box with about a cu ft of airspace out of the lower half of the well, just enough for most 12" subs. a single 10" should fit even easier.

the crafty ones get the 8"s into the sail panels, may be one of my future projects...

Re: 8inch speaker set ups ?

Hey dan thanks for chiming in you always have good input to offer. can you elaborate a little on what you mean? lower wheel... in the lower portion of the hatch behind the plastic? the 6x9's i'll be happy with i'm going for a really crisp and clear sound this time and just looking for a little thump to help the sound. i would probably have room for a well box but i really want it to look clean back there and not crowded. i thought about putting the battery behind the plastic and just doing a single 8 or 10 in the well and the amp and capacitor on the opposite side and then the nitrous bottles up top behind the seat.

Here is an old shot of what I did in my last 3rd gen:

The top of the box was flush with the ledges half way down in the well. Still allowed for the t-top bag to be used without issue. No hacking involved and hit plenty hard.

the driver side is a good spot for the battery, just make sure you secure and vent it properly. skip on the capacitor; upgrade the "big 3" first. A class-d amp will draw less power than an equivalent A/B, making your charging system a little happier.

Re: 8inch speaker set ups ?

sounds good. thats kinda what i was thinking on. i like when they sink the amp into the box so i might do something along those lines as well. any suggestions on a nice speaker for this set up. $ is not a worry as i'm not putting a monster system in this thing so i think i could go a little better for a single speaker. my goal is something that will support the factor component set up(new speakers of coarse) plus i'm adding 5inch door speakers.

Re: 8inch speaker set ups ?

i had a single 10 in the lower part of the well and it hit pretty good. now it still hits hard with the 2 10's in there, but i need more airspace and plan on either building something like the abbove for both sides, or the standard full well box.

I did that with my 89. I sealed up the area as best as I could with expanding foam and deadened with a Dynamat and an equivalent. I'm sealed along the had liner - to - sail panel junction, all the holes in by the floor are sealed but accessible, I sealed the door jamb vent and the opening to the hatch area is sealed up. I have 8" Kenwood eXcelon woofers in the sails, I'm only supplying them 60 watts RMS apiece but they're capable of 150 watts RMS each. I might put a better amp in later, but they sound really good for now.

Re: 8inch speaker set ups ?

It's not my box, bit if memory serves, 1/2" mdf was used.

You could get creative, build a glove box and add a door.

Maybe secure the door with some velcro.
