What CD Player do you guys recommend for a budget of $200 ?
Finally I'm replacing my Kenwood casette player. I have nothing fancy in the car. ( No amp, subs, etc. Just 2 pairs of nice speakers)
) With Kenwood I don't have a good reception. And when I play a teyp, eventhough the sound quality is really good, I have no base at all.
Any suggestions ?

pioneer makes some nice solid decks for around 180 dollars, im upgrading to the clarion proaudio DRX9675z, but right now i have a pioneer DEH-P3100. it has great sound quality and its nice and solid, and i dont have any amps either. oh yea, its 45x4 with some sweet bass, and like 9 different ways to adjust the bass.
hope this helps.

I've had good luck with the new Sony line. They are stupid looking, but you get a lot of features for the money. For $179 you can get the sumthinorother 4000, which has the D-Bass, dual pre-outs, etc. Good deck for the money.

For that price, I'd say the Pioneer 3100 or 4100, which both work very well. The Sony 4000 is ugly and the **** is too small, but it seems to work very well. A JVC 650 or 750 would be nice, but JVC CD changers ALWAYS break in my opinion, so if you intend on adding a changer later, don't bother with JVC. The JVC El Kameleon looks cool, but I'd be very nervous about theft. I forget the Kenwood model numbers, but I'm sure their $200 deck would be very good.
If you have poor radio reception, it's likely to be an antenna problem, so replacing the radio probably won't help much. And if you're getting no bass, maybe one (or more) speakers are wired out of phase. Move the balance and fader controls to play only one speaker at a time, and see if the bass gets better.

I wouldn't bother with JVC...I've had friends have major problems with them.
Clarion's baseline Pro Audio is nice for $200...a friend of mine got one over the summer, and its real nice. Also, Kenwood's aren't a bad buy in that price either.
The one I would pick is the Alpine. Yeah I know, many of you think this year's models are not as good looking, but when compared to the Sonys and Pioneers at that price level, the quality is arguably better. I've never seen one person have a problem with an Alpine, but I've heard of people having problems with Sony Xplod and JVC decks.

Whenever a Ford enthusiast says a Mustang is best, remind him of this...
"At least Chevy never put a 305 in a Chevette and called it a Camaro!!" (aka the Mustang II)...annoys 'em every time!!

Alpine is what I usually push too, but unless you can appreciate the difference in build quality and sound quality, your dollar will go farther with the Sony. The cheapest Alpine with dual pre-outs is $250, vs the $180 of the Sony. Some of the better alpines have been having all sorts of heat related problems too. I'm not knocking Alpine, because I would buy one before I bought a Sony, but for the average Joe, the sony seems to represent the better deal.

Perhaps the new Sonys are better (The xplods sure dont look very good tho). I have the ES from about 3 years ago. It has been fixed 3 time under warrenty for the rotary encoder breaking. When i brought in to the repair shop, they had like 30 various Sonys there with the same problems. They said that after about a year, the ***** go. Good thing for me the ES line has a warranty longer the the std 1 year. The general duability of Sony seems to have gone down, from what i have noticed. I always used to buy Sony. Excellent features, good price. But if you deck is aways in the shop, what kind of value is that. Just my experience with Sony. Even the Trinitron i have just broke a week ago (second time in the shop for a blown power supply). On the other hand, i have never had a problem with anything Pioneer.

I would recommend a Pioneer unit. You can get an inexpensive pioneer unit (under $200)That has a 40-45watts x4 Mosfet chip for high output. This would be good for a non-amp type of setup. They would run factory speakers but would sound alot better with aftermarket speakers.

From what my experience is with CD decks is that SONY just plainly sucks d**k!!! I went through 3 of the same decks and all I got was the engine noise in between songs and the damn display on the detachable face went out on all 3 decks. Talk about cheap quality!!! Plus their CD signal to noise ratio is like on 92 DB, which really sucks. I then got about as close to top of the line Clarion deck as you can get w/ out spending over $400 and that thing is awesome. Had it for over a year and have got nothing but praises on it.
For my my mom's Blazer I bought her a JVC high powered 45x4 CD deck and it kicks some butt. That is also a good deck too. I will replace my Clarion w/ a newer Clarion model and put the old one in my Festiva to have some beat in there too (my little 30 sec. 1/4 mile car, lol).
I also agree w/ Alpine they are also really good w/ the new BBE sound. Clarion and Alpine are the top dogs right now and they kick even for their low grade models.

I've got a JVC and it works great. Only costs 150. Features comes with remote and its 40x4watt.

I have had my JVC KD-SX750 for about 4 months now and I love it. I search around for a while and it has the most features (but not the dumb ones you never use) while still keeping a pretty simple operation of any others in its price range. I paid $180 through Best Buy I think. My friend has a 2 year old or so JVC and it is still working great and he treats it like $#!^.
