Interior led lights - Best power source?
Hey all,
simply want to run a small string of led lights under the dash to shine on the floor. In searching for a power source, i have to remember, I only want the lights to turn on when a door is open or if I turn them on with a switch.
I located an orange and white power source under the dash that seems to work when i tested it. If the door was open, it had power to the led, if it was closed, no power. I have since blown a fuse as I grounded it and bam lost the fuse. Is there a better option than using this source or am I on the right track?

Thanks Dyno, now that I have blown a fuse, I cant seem to find it anywhere. Any ideas where the fuse is? I checked all the fuses in the fuse block. Is there another block I need to check? Thanks in advance

Orange should have power all the time. It's the white ground that is completed when you open the doors. The orange wire is powered off of the CTSY fuse.

Re: Interior led lights - Best power source?
What I have done in the past to add additional LEDs to my interior is go to my local auto parts store and picked up a fuse panel. They are small and easy to hide. Normally down the same isle as fuses, bulbs, wires, etc. Also pick up a positive battery terminal that allows for another wire to be run. Run the positive wire thru the fire wall and to the panel. And from there just wire the lights accordingly. It doesn't add the strain to the factory wiring and blow fuses that way. And as far as turning on and off with the door, you can pick up door contact switches. I hope this helps you out, good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I used the white and orange wires as they were door light lighs anyway. I open either door and the leds come on blue. Nice effect. Now I realized I ned to wire a switch to turn the lights on when the doors are closed. Thanks again.

You already have that override switch. Its built into the headlight switch. Just turn it until the dome light turns on. It should also turn on whatever else you tied into the circuit.
