Here is the deal. My GTA has a power antenna and a Jensen CD Receiver. During cold weather my radio does not work until it gets warm. After a while the radio might work but still with a lot of interference. This also happened when the stock radio was still in.
I have checked the antenna connection and is OK but suspect it is the power antenna.
Has anyone had this problem?

Is your antenna fully extending?

does it not work at all or maybe you hear hiss but no sound and that's what is leading you to believe it's the antenna?
Yes, the antenna is extending all the way.
The only sound that comes out is static but you can barely hear the radio station.
In the summer it was fine but once it got cold it just crapped out.
I did noticed oil on the antenna itself, so I think I might just pull it apart and clean it.

I'm almost led to believe there's a bad soldering joint somewhere, or a loose wire. Could be that the connection doesn't work until the unit gets warm (metal expands).
Does the CD work fine when the unit's cold?
My sister had a Toshiba (?!?!) CD/radio, and the radio just went to static. It was static all the time tho. I asked a few repair shops (none of which could repair Toshiba, hm, wonder why? Heh) and they said the tuner module was probably shot. Replacement would be about $100; which didn't make sense to bother with.
I have a spare whip (from my old parts car) that I plugged in, as I too thought it was the antenna. Maybe you could grab one from a junkyard? You could buy a cheap-o replacement antenna from any auto parts store, but that's $20...

The CD works fine as it should. I think I will go ahead and take the receiver out from the dash and connect an antenna to it and see if that works. And as I said earlier I will also remove the antenna to clean it. Maybe it's gummed up inside and has a bad contact between the antenna sections.
Will come back with results. Thanks for the help.

Dont clean it too good. Your power antenna needs oil to operate smoothly.

Thanks, I will be re-lubricating it with silicone di-electric grease.

my peice of **** jensen does that too.....neither does it play burned cds.....and cds from Roadrunner Records it gets so sensative.and the lightest bump in the road kills the cd for 5 seconds.....so ...I RIPPED IT OUT.. jensen sucks......bleh......im gonna try and get another one for my camaro.
Well, I checked everything and still nothing. The CD works fine (except on bumpy roads), but the radio is still out.
I was checking it out with it out of the dash, and it would come and go. At times all stations worked then a minute latter everything is gone.
I'm going to wait until it warms up a little then I'll spend more time on it. I am going to replace the antenna cable and see if it works.
