Radio in 84 Berlinetta.
Radio in 84 Berlinetta.
Hi, I have a 1984 Camaro Berlinetta, and anyone who has seen the inside of one of these cars knows that they have one messed up radio. My question is does anyone know where it is possible to put a real radio, or are there any aftermarket radios out there. Thanks
yea yo i got the same radio and one of the nicest sounding systems in my school yo. I kept the "standup" radio (knightrider) so when someone looks in it looks all stock. But what they dont know is that i got all 6x9s and 4x6s amped, including four 8" JBL Power GT Series subs in the trunk well. KEEP THE RADIO, ITS RARE AND EXPENSIVE... and if you do take it out, dont break it. Sell that **** and get some $$$$$.
personally, i would keep it and do what ive done and just power the speakers with amps. youll get a better sound if its good quality stuff. Im partial to Clarion amps. But Alpine and Eclipse are just sick companys...
by the way, Best Buy told me theres no way to get a REAL CD player in because all spaces are to shallow... youd have to get a console from like a normal camaro put in, just more hassle, AMP IT.

Trust me, you'll get MUCH better sound quality from a decent cd head unit than by hooking the stock Berlinetta stereo up to some amps.. you'd have to use line output convertors, etc etc etc.. and it would generally suck.
Get a decent HU with a couple of outputs and some decent amps and you'll be A LOT better off. As for mounting the deck, I think you have to get a center console out of a normal Camaro, and they are in parts yards everywhere..

Thanks for the help.
I think I am just going to keep the knightider, because I don't want to deal with changin out the center conslole. I did find an interesting way to get a normal radio in, it is at www.geocities.com/vtcamaro/Console.html I thought about this, but I think i will just stick with the original. thanks for the help.

Stick with the original and add an amp. It'll save you $200 you can put towards the rest of the car, and unless you crank the hell outta the stereo, you won't notice a huge difference. It is there, but at normal listening volumes, a decent tape deck that is functioning right and has clean heads is better than you might think.

Keep the stock radio - Don't deface your Berlinetta by putting something that looks like that "custom" console in your car !! The radio is the BEST that DElco had to offer in 84 and makes the Berlinetta stand out. Can you name one other third gen radio that automatically turns the volume down after the car is shut off so you don't go deaf when you re-start the car? How about one that will scan to the next song on your cassette - Or replay the last song you heard ??
Keep the original radio in it and mount a CD changer somewhere.

I agree with Jon in RI, mount a cd player/changer somewhere else if you can put a changer in the trunk and montrols hidden in/on the console. Just my two cents.

I think I already asked this on another thread, but how do you put a changer on that radio? I am no expert at car audio, so I don't really know what that would entail. I'm sure I could figure it out, but any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can get a cd changer that hooks up to the antenna-in lead on your stock deck.. they are called "FM Modulated".. otherwise they're going to be brand specific for the most part.. make SURE you get one that is FM modulated.
