Fit wise, it fits well.
Design choice wise? Poor location. Its a poor location choice forcing you to really look down and turn your entire head to see the display if you need to.
You'd have been better off with just hooking a BT receiver up to an amp, and mounting your phone on the A-pillar or near the center of the dash so you could glance down and see it without moving your head.

It looks like you've done a nice job with it, but I'm with Thirdgen89GTA as far as a choice of location. I feel like you'll ultimately find it to be either annoying in that you can't LOOK at it, or dangerous because you DO look at it.

I kinda like it! But as the others have said I think I would find it annoying real fast, as far as the fab work goes it looks great!

To expand a bit. Your workman ship looks good, its flush mount, and doesn't look hacked at all.
It would be an excellent place for anything tactile as its easily within reach by fingertips and if the controls are easily memorable then it would be a perfect installation.
But you do not want anything you need to actually look at and read down there. Its too far down, and tilting/turning your head will cause your steering input to drift.
A good split would be the controls where you put them, with a display in a higher location nearer to your field of view while driving the car.
Its also the same reason I disagree with touch screens. I'm totally okay with the large center mounted display stacks, or instrument clusters that have LCDs built into them. But a touch screen has zero tactile feedback and as such requires you to LOOK at what you are touching. And considering we should be concentrating on driving, thats a no go for me from a design standpoint.

I like the gauges where you put them. Nice work. I was going to try to put 3 digital gauges where the ashtray is using angled rings. Now you have me thinking............ I don't listen to the radio, I don't own or use a cell or smart phone (never will), so all I really need is my amps and something to play music from a thumb drive. Dinosaur - and proud of it.

Once you get used to it its kinda like a caculator
you dont look at it when you use it.
I got a whole bunch of music on the usb so its mainly a forward song or volume control.
I like it can take a spill and a beating.

Re: New Place For Head Unit.
I wonder if an aftermarket radio will fit where the ashtray is/was. The "new" mechless units are not very deep without having a cassette or CD player in them.
To me, the gauges belong where you put them. I personally would shift them up in the opening a little bit if I were to get a radio to fit in the ashtray location.

turn the stock radio location into a storage cubby.
use the tablet/phone as your gps map display too.

That's the problem - I will never have a smart phone.
