Make own box

i was thinking of making my own Box for 2 12's....Is there a certain kind of wood i should use or anything. Also If i have 2 10's and 2 12's with a 600 watt 4-channel amp but all the subs have a 200 watt max capacity so will i blow the subs or how much power will go to each sub?

you dont wanna mix sub sizes. they wont sound right. the tens will be quicker than the twelves.

and the amp, if its 150watts goin to each sub then they wont be over powered.

You should use 3/4" MDF to build the box, and like TKD said, mixing subs is usually a bad idea. Any time you have different drivers playing the same music, you get some funky effects as a result of their non-similar frequency response and impedance curves. It can also damage them if they're running off of the same amp and in the same box chamber because of something called Back EMF. Whenever there are slight differences between speakers, the air pressure from the dominant one will cause the other one to move against its signal, which can cause back EMF and in addition to sounding lousy, it can cause damage in some cases.

size doesn't matter. Any time you use 2 non-identical drivers, it's going to cause problems and sound bad.

if you want it louder than 2 10s can go, buy 3 or 4 10s.

If you got 2 more subs with different power ratings, that would mean they aren't the same, wouldn't it? if they aren't identical, don't waste your time.

But I'm going to be honest for a minute here. (Nobody likes it when I do this. ) If those subs are only rated at 200 watts max, I'm guessing they're cheap subs. You would be FAR better off to pitch those and just invest in 1 or 2 QUALITY subs, instead of screwing around with a half-dozen piece-of-**** subs. Trust me, I've been there. I had 4 12" Urban Audio subs that hit about as hard as my friend's single 10", and didn't sound half as good.

You can buy Y connectors for the RCAs that will split the signal.

For the power and ground, you can buy distribution blocks, but you have to make sure that your feed wire is sufficient for both amps.

well i guess wht i am going to do isjus get 2 more 10's like the ones i got and makemy own box for them...another quetion tho...some sub boxes have little channels for air to get out or some thin but mine is just a big box with 2 subs sticking out, should i make my new box with a hole or not b/c when i push on one of my subs the air can not escape so it moves the sub, does that mean they are working against each other? ALSO(sorry guys) my subs now sit on the top of trunk area and what i was going to d is make a box to fit in the litte area downbelow that but i was wondering if there is any where else to put them lik up front some where b/c i want the subs to be as close as possible? thanx a lot

That's gonna depend on the subs themselves. Some subs are designed to use ports and some aren't. It should say right on the box... And you can't "just cut a hole". There has to be a certain amount of surface area to the port in order for it to sound right. It also sounds like you don't know that the box has to be a certain size as well (hold a certain volume of air). One sub in the correct sized box will sound better than two subs in a box that's too large or small for them.

well iam going to make it exactly the same size as my other box but just a little smaller b/c my old box almost fits in the lower trunk space but not quite. Also does any ne kow if there is some where to put some 10's up front some where, like under the seats or any where. I hate when they are all the way in he back.

No, I can barly fit my arm under my seat, so I doubt you are going to fit any sub. It would be nice if you could fit them where the tranny is (opposite kickpanels) becouse the sound would be driven at you rather than from behind you. This doesen't usually matter becouse it is almost impossible to tell where most lower bass noise is comming from. To answer your question, maybe an 8" sub in some custom door pods.

BTW, how many subs do you plan on running? Like Jim said I've heard many of single 10" or 12" setups that sound better than a bunch of "buy 1 get one free subs."

*Warning* Don't make cheap decisions, you'll end up with wasted equiptment if you don't plan right.

The only sub mixture I think made the sound better was 1 15 and 2 10's... It does give it a different effect, but in a positive way... It sounded great... I tried 1 15 and 2 12's and it was brutal... Tried a bunch of different mix up's and the 1 15 and 2 10's came out great... But if anyone is going to mix them up like that, make sure u use the same brand name subs.... Dont use a JL 15 and 2 Rockford 10's... It probably wont sound how it should.....

Man, I dont know how good you are with making boxes, me and my dad are having a hell of a time making mine. Its our first time building a box and we prolly should of picked a easer car than my Firebird to make on for. Just be sure of one thing that if its a sealed box, its totally sealed (i recommend wood glue, then screws, then silicon) its big enough(right volume) and oh yea make sure its sealed again. I recommend using braces on the inside to stiffen it up a bit. And on the subs, go for quality not quantity. One quality sub will sound better and louder than 4 crappie subs. I myself am going with two JL 10W6's and a Audiobahn 840 watt amp. There gonna pound. The idea of the 8's in the kickpanel is good too. If you put enough thought, time, reasearch, and planing into your system, you will have one badazz and loud ride.

What kind of Subs are they. Sealed enclosures usually are tighter and wont carry on with the Bass.
