Front 4x6 speakers - Boston Acoustics or Infinity Kappa?

I'm trying to decide which would be better for my application:

Boston Acoustics 746, 95db, 12-80W, $105
Infinity Kappa 462.3cfp, 90db, 2-60W, $80

I'll be running them off the head unit, the one I'm looking at is rated for 21Wx4 RMS, 60Wx4 MAX.

Anyone with experience with either of these? Comments on fit in stock locations? Are the Boston Acoustics going to sound OK running off the head unit?

I've heard that the new Infinity Kappas have had problems with the cones cracking. Has this problem been fixed yet? If not, does it affect this particular model number?

Thanks!

Both! VA Chapter of EFA. I'll be at MIR this weekend for the 3rd/4th gen shootout.

Kappas are power hungry. I would not reccommend you power them off the deck. They really need an amp.

I had the 462.1 cf kappas and they fell apart in about a year. The cone is badly cracked and a 1/4 of the cone is gone on both speakers. I think they craked from sitting in the sun. Also the off set woffer did not fit in my drivers side opening at all. I had to melt the heat duct alot to get it to fit in my 84 Trans Am. I replaced them with some center woffer speakers and they fit.

I've been running Boston 746 plates for many years, and I have yet to find a better sounding pair of 4x6s. Boston recently discontinued them, and if I wasn't so damned broke at the time, I would have bought our last pair at work just to have as a spare. They are fantastic sounding speakers and I would definately reccomend them. I've had mine for 7 or 8 years now, and they've been through hell and back (along with 4 different cars) and still sound fantastic.

I'vehad the infinity kappa 4x6s in my camaro for almost two years now and have no problems with quality. They look like they just came out of the box. Keep in mind that they get driven hard all the time, and this is central Texas, the land of 110* summers and 3 week winters. I love the way they sound. I haven't had a chance to hear a set of Boston's but I hear great things about them. I don't think you can really go wrong with either one.
