speakers

I have a stock stereo and cassete player in my 1990 camarors. I would like to know how to figure out which of my speakers is making crackling noises. I have the sail panels off right now and I just don't know what I am looking for. Maybe a tear or something?
I am pretty good with wiring if I know what to do. Any help would be great!

If you're not sure which speaker (if it is only one) is crackling, then use the balance and fader ***** to isolate each speaker while the music is playing. As for what's causing it, there are a bunch of things that could be at fault, from the radio's amp, the wiring, to the speakers themselves.

Yea, You want to turn the ***** to R/F then to isolate a specific speaker you want to turn the other **** L/R so you can listen to the right rear speaker only. Then swich them around so you can listen to the left rear, then the fronts one at a time.
Most likely it is a front speaker that is causing the noise. The front speakers are bombarded by light and heat amplified by the winshield.

The balance fades left or right, the fader goes front to back. Should just rip those stock speakers out and put a pair or coaxial 6x9's in the back, and 4x6's in the front they are cheap as all heck now.

thank you both so much!
Now just one more question... Where are the front speakers? I will bet they are under the dash and harder than anything to get at!!!
I can't believe my speakers lasted this long. they only started acting up now that I have to drive on a cobblestone road every morning.

The front speakers are located on either side of the dash where the holes are. Depending on year you might be able to pry the grills up and remove the speakers without removing the dash. But since you ask where the speakers are you probably have a newer thierdgen with holes cut into the dash "no here I am grills." Im fairly certian thier a 5/16th or 8mm screws in the dash and on the front where the defroster ducts are phillips screws.
The dash is a very easy one to remove and the speakers are also easy to revmove if you have a small wrachet set.

OK, so here I go on this project. changing speakers. I need to stop a small crack that has started in my dash; so now is the perfect time to do the speakers also. Thanks again for your help...Wish me luck!
It sure is dumb to put the speakers right where the heat is magnified.
