6.5 in Dash???
6.5 in Dash???
what is the largest speaker I can put in to the opening in the dash without too much modification with good sound....all the 4*6's sound like junk..... maybe 6.5's or 5 1/4's or anything better than 4*6's

why limit yourself to the dash ??

I agree. All that work and for what? You've still got dash speakers.

I would think you could probably remove the stock grilles (if it's a Firebird) or cut away some material (if it's a Camaro), and top-mount some 5 1/4s in there.
But then the round aftermarket grilles would be protruding, and it would look kind of stupid.

I just bought a set of infinity 462.3 speakers because they were supposed to fit in the stock 4X6 holes. They are have a 4" woofer and a 1" tweeter that is sets along side instead of in the center. The passenger side fit fine but the driver side doesnt . I had to wind up mounting the speakers on top of the dash pad and I have to custom make some grills . The speakers soound awesome, very crisp , and accent the Alpines in the rear very nicely.

I have last year's (dark gray) model of the same speakers you have...using Jim's heat gun trick, they fit just fine.

I just did it again in my GTA. I took a bunch of pictures, but I haven't had time to update the article. Maybe next week.
