Curious of diff between 4x6 speakers and 4x6 plates speakers??...

I was looking at the 4x6's and I noticed most are oval shaped. Then I noticed one that was round, but fit into a 4x6 slot. Like the Infinity 462.3 speaker. Which ones are better the oval or the plate rounded ones.

1. Which ones produce more bass?
2. Which ones produce more treble?
3. Which ones can handle better?
4. Which ones have the most clarity?
Etc, etc, etc... Thanks a bunch.

Hey,

Without having any brand names to choose from, I can't really give you a answer as to which is better.

But I'll give you an example of what I went through.
I "had" a pair of 4x6 JBL oval shaped speakers in our car and they were real harsh sounding. I'm talking make your ears bleed midrange tones.
Then I switched over to the Infinity 462.1cf plate speakers which have the round speaker and it was a world of difference!

You're looking at the Infinity 462.3cf plate spekers which is their new line up.

Here's the difference that I can see between the new and old.

(NEW) 462.3cf specs
Power Handling, RMS: 60 Watts
Frequency Response (±3dB): 75Hz – 21kHz
Sensitivity: 90dB
Impedance: 4 Ohms

(OLD) 462.1cf specs
Power Handling, RMS: 60 Watts
Frequency Response (±3dB): 78Hz – 20kHz
Sensitivity: 89dB
Impedance: 4 Ohms

So what's the difference?
Both speakers handle the same amount of wattage.
The new speakers are a tad more efficient at 90dB.
The new spekers go a couple of hertz lower and higher than the older model. So all in all they did do some minor changes in the new line-up.

I can tell ya the infinity Kappa series speakers are very nice sounding.
The best thing you can do is go to a good audio store in your area and compair 4x6 speakers. Bring your own cd and have them play your favorite song so you can make a good comparison between speakers.

Speakers specs won't tell you how the speaker will sound. My JBL speakers had much better specs than the infinity speakers I have now, but they were real harsh sounding.

Choosing speakers is a ear judgement, not just specs.

Be critical and have fun choosing a pair of speakers.

Car: 1999 Chevy Cavalier

Transmission: 5 speed
Axle/Gears: it's part of the transmission
my friend who just dropped about a grand to hook up his truck sytem, had the same delima. we wanted to get something in the 4x6" mounts that did the job. we checked out plates and I thought the infinity ones stunk, but what else is new? the cerwin vega ones were great, but $130/pair well worth it IMOP,but my friend didn't think so. he ended up getting eclipse oval 4x6"s for the front for about $70/pair from GO-HO audio in newport news,VA I wish I knew the model of those eclipse because they sounded awsome!! better than the infinity's I thought,so the plates are a better idea, but not always better. just some food for thought.

Again, the type of speaker is not so important as how well it's made. In theory, plates are better than 2-ways because the midrange cannot interfere with te tweeter, but there are some damn good 2-ways out there. I have Pioneer TSA-4667's (two ways), and they sound great. I did put caps on them to filter out the low freqs, and that makes a world of difference as well.

one word ok Infinity 4652cfp ok thats 2 words. I got these and they are awesome as far as 4x6s go. I mean the highs are great and if you aren't interested in 6 1/2s or 5 1/4s these are the way to go. They can take all the deck power you can throw at em. I don't know if i would trust them amped or not though!!
