what carb to use with my setup?
i have a 305 setup like my signature but im swapping in a mild cam, edelbrock performer intake, and world product 305 torquer heads....im going with a summit HEI distributer my question is what kind of carb should i go with? i hear bad things about edelbrocks so i might stay away from them...how about a holley 600cfm 4 barrel vac secondaries or possibly a 570cfm SA holley think those are good choices or do you recommend something else? how much HP would this setup be?
hey i plan on doing the exact same setup with my 305,and i think im going to go with the speed demon 650 vac secondary with electric choke.i think that 650 cfm should be perfect for the 305,and im pretty sure that the stock q-jets on the CCC motors were around 650-675.its only 400 bucks from summit,a mere 50 bucks more than the SA 570,and its alot better of a carb. do you know what cam youre going to go with?i want to go a step or 2 up from a stock LT1 grind, and go with the performer EPS manifold.
oh yeah and after you do this work i think you should be damn close to beating those pesky GT's you have listed in your sig.good luck!

its not gonna take me much more than what i have to outrun my dads 95GT auto its pretty slow to as for the 91 mustang its gonna take alot he has since added full exhaust, shift kit, gears and um a 9psi paxton sooo im not shooting for that anymore...however i just talked to a guy thats selling a l98 with the 700r4 for 500$ i might check it out

Stock CC q-jets can flow 795 cfm. But, a 305 can't use it all.
If you are considering an Avenger, you can afford a Demon. Much better carb for less money (from Summit, 625 cfm Road Demon, $299.95; 570 cfm Avenger, $349.95). A "normal" Holley VS is less (600 cfm $209-$229), but the only nit I've heard about Demons is the price.
Don't give the Avenger another thought. Silly waste of money.
HP depends upon the cam and exhaust. You didn't say anything about exhaust, and that's very important to support the rest of your package.
Unless the Worlds have bowl work done, they also will limit power.
The L98 sounds like a bargin.

I have a 305, with a Performer intake and Hooker headers. I used to have a QJet on it and it worked very well, especially when those secondaries opened up and kicked butt
I now have an Edelbrock 1406 600 cfm carb on it and the off the line performance is superior to the QJet's. Remember that the Performer intake and Performer carbs were designed, developed and dynoed as a unit. It really shows in the low to mid rpms range, I can assure you of that!
I think that with a better cam, one like the Crane 2040 or Comp XE 256, that the 305 with the above combo would REALLY fly :hail:
Don't be afraid to try the Performer 1400 series carbs with what you have. They are a really good carb, especially for the street.
By super-tuning a Holley or Demon you might get a tenth or two better ET in the Quarter. Maybe not. But you will pay a LOT more for that theoretical advantage and that is something only you can decide whether you value or not. But don't let ANYBODY tell you that an Edelbrock is a dog. It ain't true--"Jester the nuisance" notwithstanding.

i already have hooker comp shorty headers, y pipe, no cat and a series 80 flowmaster i figure thats good enough for awhile also some magazine did a test and the worlds bolt straight onto a 305 TPI produced 51 more hp and ~60lbs torque...and the TPI heads are alot better than the TBI heads plus they will be the easiest bolt on replacements and with the smaller valves wont cause shrouding...the l98 sounds to good to be true...says the car was totalled and the bellhousing came threw the counsoul but the car still started and everything...id be willing to pay that 500 just for the TPI and whatever else i can salvage tho...i kinda dont want to do the TPI swap because i hear its a pain to run the wiring but for 500$ i might do it id like to have the tranny to or take the TPI off sell it on ebay and get most of my money back and use the 350 as my base and build it from there

Just to set the record straight, that magazine dyno head comparison used 3-angle valve job stock heads as a baseline, and pocket ported Worlds. They weren't a "bolt-on" out of the box.
If you get the heads unassembled, you'll see why everybody does the bowl work before bolting them on. Perhaps someday World will modify their standard machining setup to fix that problem.

stay with the worlds and get them pocket ported.i believe its only like 150 bucks most places.i know super chevy or whoever did that LG4 story had it done for 150,and my buddy had head work done for around 150 i believe.definetely worth it.
think it would be about 150$ to get the vortecs milled? and just use a mild cam so i dont get valve shrouding?
only reason im against the vortecs right now is because if like to be able to go ahead and do cam, intake and carb but if i get the vortecs ill have to wait till i can do it all at the same time
