Air cleaner problems

Well i jsut put on my 600cfm manuel edelbrock and when i try to slip my 14x3" edelbrock air cleaner on it, the throttle hits up under neath it andi cant get the gas into the carb. can anyone help me with a fix. I dont know if i can put a lift/rise kit on the air cleaner cuz i only got the stock hood. Should i buy one of the triangular air cleaners? please help thanks.

Not sure about the throttle, but you can pick up a banjo fitting from Edelbrock. It alows you to get the fuel line on in tight spaces.

I had a K&N drop base on my old Edelbrock, and never had a problem with the throttle lever.
There's also a more fine tune option for the throttle, is to get an air cleaner spacers. You can get those as small as 1/4".

I had the same problem. I solved it with a cowl induction hood and a flat base filter.

But back to reality, the banjo fuel fitting will clear the fuel line for you, or edelbrock came out with new for '03 fuel lines that drop the fuel line down and to the front of the carb. Ill find the PN and post it later. The cost is around 35 for the new line. For the throttle, the drop base should have two indentations in it to clear the lever. Be sure to allign the lever with this indentation on the base of the filter. Another idea is to cut or grind the lever or the filter (I always go with the chapest part so that I don't pay much if I screw up) to the point that it clears one way or another. It will only increace air flow, right?

What ever you do, DO NOT use one of those triangular POSs. That is not a go-fast piece at all, it's for street rodders who just want something shiny to slap on top of their motor to stick through the hood so 8-year-olds can oooh and aaah over all the chrome. They are dangerous on a motor that's actually driven, besides the fact that in a car with a hood, the hood usually sits right on top of it.

hmmmm

Well i dont have the money for a cowl hood right now and the fuel line fits ok its just the throttle hits. K no triangular air cleaner thanks guys. Hmmm..u think i could cut the air cleaner to work i dont care how it looks for now just as long as it works until i get a cowl hood later on. I would be like a 2" space width and height out of a 14 x 3 u think this would hurt? thanks

Of course it would hurt. Basically you'd just bypass the filter with a hole that big letting in dirt. It won't be an air cleaner any more, it will merely resemble one when viewed from some angles.

Use the stock air cleaner or something until you get the right thing. No sense trashing your motor just for "looks". The wear on the cyl walls will still be there long after that chrome air cleaner has rusted and turned to crap. What's really more important?

Crap

Well i already cut up the air cleaner. There is only about a 1/2 on there of a space where dirt can get into the engine and it would have to come up under the air cleaner to do it. But i dont have the old air cleaner asselby to put into the car right now. What do i do...i want to put on sumthing that will work but i dont know what will. I would need about 2" of space to clear the throttle with a stock hood. And right now im stumped Please help

Use a pice of laytex glove and some rtv to seal the hole, but retaining the flexability to allow the throttle lever to clear the filter. The wear on cyl. walls will only occur through constant no element use, but won't hurt the engine to run without one for a short peroid of time. Another thing to consider is the 2x10 inch size, which will give you ample clearence, with only slightly more restriction.

You can also get the drop base elements in different drops, everything from flat to a 3 inch drop. Look around.

Oval air cleaner

hey guys u think that a 15"x8-1/4" oval kand n air cleaner would work? How do these run and would it allow for the throttle to go up and down correctly? Would that fit under a stock hood?

i had a similar problem with the air cleaner not clearing the choke (electric), and the air cleaner not clearing the hood with a spacer on top of the carburetor. we cut the spacer down to the shortest possible length, and cut out some of the reenforcement on the hood. everything clears fine now
