Edelbrock Carb proplems
If anyone knows what to do cause im about to give up. I have an edelbrock performer 600 cfm i have the adaptor hooked up all gaskets in place all lines pluged/connected proper jetting but when i try to start the car it cranks for a while then if i keep on trying it the carb will make a pop noise and shoot up alittle fire once i dont know waht to do..about to sell car please help i have a 86 z28
Is this a new carb or used & if used was if rebuilt?
Check your timing, ignition system & IMS screws.
Use some carb cleaner and spray around carb/intake manifold gasket to see if you have some vacuum leak.

Make sure it's wired and grounded right. Make sure you have a good module and the rotor is in place.
To start over and find TDC, pull the distributor again and pull the driverside valvecover and put the damper on TDC again & reinstall the distributor.
Make sure both valves on #1 cylinder are closed and nowhere near moving when you have the damper turned to TDC. Pulling the valvecover and watching the valves is the best way.

then find TDC and just pull the distributor then turn the rotor counter-clockwise and drip it back in and then keep doing this until it points at about #1 cylnder. i had this problem it singed off my brothers eyebrows because i had it 180 out and shot a fireball out my edelbrock. lol

I agree will all post's; check your dist. pull it out a see where your rotor is pointing to.
It should be pointing towards #1 cyl.
If not it may be 180 towards #6 cyl.
Mark your dampner with white out along with timing cover/mark to align TDC.

Ive gone through this little dance a few times, people like to help (yea right) and get things mixed up. Turn the crank until the timing mark is in the center of the timing tab the rotor should be pointing to either NO.6 terminal or NO.1 terminal. Either is correct but if your poping still that tells us its 180* out and you need to point the rotor at no.1 instead or vise versa. No need to pull anything apart.
Just noticed batman said the same thing, oh well good advice should be repeated.

Funny thing no one mentioned this.
Check the timing chain & gears. Right after I put on my Air gap and Edb. carb, the timing chain skipped due to age and the synthetic gear material. When this occurs, you can set the timing as many times as you like and the engine still won't run. Just an idea.
