The QA1 STB 'strut tower brace' is basically the old Edelbrock part. QA1 is a
quality racing brand. This is the TPI part #5226. The TBI braces will not fit on
carbed setups from what i have been told. I did have to add a shim under the
brace brackets on the towers in order to clear the strut mounts.

As far as sway bars, go with the biggest you can find... lol

The plan is to install a 1984 wiper motor i have with integrated pump. My
factory wiper motor is the old design and the water nozzles were in the way of
the STB. The newer design wiper motor has a moduler pump that is facing down
and out of the way. With the pump on the wiper motor it will allow me to install
any bottle i want. Am currently looking for a small bottle to mount in the driver
side fender. I think the current Mustang bottle will fit in the fender... LOL

Yah, mounting it was super easy. Less than 20 minutes, used the smog pump pulley from a tbi Chevy truck. No shimming or messing around. Pulley lined right up. Can't wait to see what it does on the dyno. Let me know when you get those pedals too!

Did you mount the moroso vac pump on the original air pump bracket? Do you have pics of how you exactly did this? I was thinking about doing the same thing and no need to invent the wheel twice

thanks

Re: Post Your Carb'd Motor Pics

I went for a clean, stock-like appearing setup in my '82 KITT car. Every wire and every hose has a purpose. All other wiring, hoses were removed, NOT cut, but removed at the source. Heater hoses re-routed for cleaner look.

On the stand:

In the car:

327 bored .60
Edelbrock 600 Manual Choke (NOTE: in the pics, shows a Holley, but the Holley wasn't worth a dime, so I switched)
Edelbrock Open Plenum Torker Intake (original Torker from the 70s)
350HP Double Hump Heads
Corvette 325HP Hydraulic Cam
Small Journal Forged Steel Crank, knife edged and balanced.
10:1 Flat top Pistons
Patriot Stainless Steel Headers
Flowmaster 40 series with 3" pipe

Painted with POR-15 Chevrolet Orange engine painting kit and I'd say the best thing you can paint an engine with. I've had the engine in the car about 6 months with NO burn-off or chipping, not even around the headers.

It's a fun little beast of an engine.

Well it was supposed to be Pontiac Blue duplicolor from Napa. It sure looks like that though doesn't it?

Like the stockish looking theme.

POR engine paint is great.
had mine on for 10 yrs and looks like new still.

Color is called platinum hard to see much of it

Thanks!! I like that platinum. That looks great! I went for a POR aluminum color on the intake and water pump to try and break up some of the orange. I wished I would have used platinum. It looks brighter!

Thanks!! I was kind of going for the cleanest look I could possibly do while making the engine easy to maintain and work on. I added the old school breathing oil fill tube in the front because I wanted NO holes in the valve covers. Plus, the intake was already designed for it since it's from the 70s. It took me forever to find those valve covers in good condition. I installed a PCV valve in the back of the block next to the distributor since this engine originally had a draft tube with an oil separator in that location. I put a new oil seperator in (under the intake) and retrofitted a PCV valve and grommet and it works perfectly. So, the engine can breathe without unsightly hoses or breathers in the valve covers.

This engine is purely old school with zero computer control. It does have an HEI top mount coil vacuum advance distributor though, but that's about as technological as it gets. I even have a choke cable installed right next to the diagnostic port under the dash. That was a perfect place to put that cable in that flat spot and it looks factory and hides well. The Edelbrock 600 manual choke carb performs flawlessly on this engine.

It was a fun build and it's a fun engine. It was my dad's old engine that he raced when he was a kid and it sat outside in the elements for over 25 years with the valve covers off and I brought it back to life. I restored it as is except for the 12:1 domed pistons which I practically destroyed trying to get them out. Can't run pump gas on those anyway.

easiest way is to create a photobucket account and upload your pics to it then post the img codes on to the forum
