carb style tpi

well i have clearance issues and a new hood is not an option i am broke but what do you guys think if i made so sort of long pipe from the carb as big as possible curved it down and stuck it behind my drivers side light and put one of the round air filters on the tip ?? kinds like the tpi with the long hose that runs from it but from a carb? am i crazy ? do you think it will increase flow ? colder air will be better i supossed im really restricting the air flow now hood comes down on that tiny filter ........if thats a bad idea post some sugestions thanks i got about 2- 2 1/2 inches of clearance from the top of the carb

The way its done in your pic, none of the air would pass through the filter.

Any intake system from a 95-99 Yukon/Tahoe/truck/Suburban should work.

your idea sounds fine if its what im thinking... your suggesting a bonnet to go on the carb and then run the tube like you have pictured right?

i have an idea, it wouldnt be pretty at all but might work....

take your air cleaner and remove the filter, place the top plate on the bottom one and JB weld it together. find some tubing from a junkyard... like the bendy plastic intake tubes used on v6 camaros. run it into the hole in your homemade bonnet. can JB weld it or just squeeze it in there nice and tight. run this bendy pipe to where you want and for ridigity use a small piece of pvc pipe to clamp the hose and filter onto

not pretty at all but a quick temp fix

heres what im talking about... i pretty much just told you how to make a stock air cleaner. again... this isnt pretty but with a cheap fram cone filter, the JB weld and bendy intake tubing it shouldnt cost as much... probably way easier to find something at a junkyard.

home depot has tons of stuff to make the cold air intake from. you can use duct. they have all sizes of lightweight alloy pipes and bendable plastics. there is someone on here with a camaro who ran it through his driving lights on the bottom of the nose. with a TA im thinking you can use some of the rectangle inlet tube and bolt it up to the plastic on the bottom of the nose and run the tubing up through the radiator support. real simple stuff you just have to get creative

You may be able to run a drop base filter with about a 1/2" spacer to lift it up and provide the extra clearance around the carb body (electric choke maybe?) that you need. I used to run a drop base with a cut off "lip" from a stock V6 carb filter base added to the bottom to get it to clear the carb components. There was still room for a 3" tall filter too.
