Need help! How much does it cost to have a 305 carb pro cleaned and sealed?

I think the shop I went to is trying to rob me.

I have a 1986 305 computer controlled carb engine.
It needs to be soaked in carb fluid for 8 hours to get the varnished old fuel out,and get new carb seals.
It needs a new TPS sensor.(works intermittenly)
It needs a new O2 sensor.(dead)
New cap, rotor and distributor.(supposedly needs replaced)

The car has sat for 17 years and I have driven it on and off for near a year.It has only 1350 miles on it.All fluids and such were flushed and replaced.

How can the cap, rotor and distributor go bad from 1350 miles?Age alone?

Anyways...the shop wants about $830 to replace said parts and clean up.

Does this sound a little high or is it just me?

Any help is appreciated!
Any suggestions are appreciated too.

Saying the Distributor is "bad" sounds fishy, especially if the TPS is flaky, it can cause unstable timing. Please DO change the Cap/rotor. When plastics breakdown with age, they start conducting when exposed high voltage.

Ask them exactly which "seal" is leaking?
I cleaned my carb without taking it apart.
Pulled off the car, dumped the gas thru the bowl vent, filled with Gummout from a spray can into bowl vent, let soak, dump and repeat.

With a car like that you should be more than happy to spend so little on such minor tune up requirements. Be happy that you don't have to tear down the powertrain and replace seals and gaskets due to dry rot. Stop your complaining about something so trivial when you have such an original and unique ride!

I think you said it right on the nose. Spend so much on such a SMALL tune up. Do it yourself. They are not giving you a good price, or maybe it's just that shops are so expensive. Either way, everything that needs to be done will take you a day or so for your first time. Carb maybe a little longer, but why not learn?

Right, you could buy a whole *** damn carburator, brand spankin new, even one thats is superior for like 300-400 bucks. The you just bolt it in, and you go. If you want to keep the car stock, buy a rebuilt carburator from a machine shop or even a GM replacement catalog for about 200-300 bucks. Cap and rotor cost very little money, under 50 bucks. o2 sensor you could get at any parts store. Or you could save the money from buying a new carb, get cleaning fluid at a local car store, and just let it soak, i doubt it leaks, unless you notice that your car runs like ****. And Wanderer, 800 bucks is alot for some people, and this is a board to ask questions, so i dont belive you should be telling someone not to complain, if that was so, why even have a board?

Just had my carb professionally taken apart cleaned and adjusted. $197.00
May seem a little pricey but wow my car runs nice now. Worth every penny.

You got an '86 with 1350 miles on it? Sweet! Welcome to Third Gen. Yeah, after sitting like that there will be some things that need to be addressed. How comfortable do you feel addressing these your self? When you're able to repair your own car there aren't many feelings that are better!
