Need help with lean problem
I recently installed a non-CC Qjet on my 90 RS. I'm experiencing a lean issue which causes pinging while driving anything above idle or under load. How do I adjust the Qjet to get rid of this problem?

You can't.
The carb doesn't cause pinging, so no amount of adjusting it will ever fix it.
Your new vacuum/mechanical distributor that you put on at the same time as the carb needs re-calibration. You're getting too much timing advance at the wrong time for your engine.

I'm using a pre-computer era HEI. The engine does ping less with the vacuum advance disconnect. I bought a advacne re-curve kit and was going to move the centrifugal advance to the mid-step. I also found the old centrifugal bushings were shot, which is probably causing some of it as well.

Using the stronger springs. Engine still pings when under load, with the vacuum advance connected. Also, the engine has a serious bog at anything above light throttle until you get through the bog. Any ideas??

Primary metering rods are stuck down in the pri jets.
Power piston stuck. Remove the top of the carb.

Use a screwdriver.
Yeah maybe the rods. Whatever it is is causing a lean condition.
Check your idle and part-throttle timing with a timing light to confirm what you're getting. Your vacuum advance may be stuck or malfunctioning as well and that would make it act lean and also cause the knocking. Advanced timing requires more fuel, so if your advance is too high then it will act too lean.
Too lean by itself would rarely just start causing spark knock by itself.
