Choke Light
I started my car after being off for 4 months, i just did a head job and the carb was sitting off the car for those 4 months, when i started it up i had a check engine light and a choke light, i got rid of the check engine light but i have no idea how to get rid of the choke light. I have the quadrajet carb, and i have noo idea about carbs, but the little thing that flaps on the front of it is stuck open, im guessin that this could be the broblem. Can anyone help?

If the choke plate is stuck open, the choke may indeed be bad, but that has nothing to do with the light being on. Check the alternator.

Check the alternator
The choke circuit is arranged in such a way that the choke will nt receive its 12V heater power, unless the alt is charging. That keeps it from being heated while sitting still while the engine is on. However, it also means that if the alt goes out, the choke stays engaged forever and never pulls off. So, probably for emissions reasons (that being a serious emissions violation and the smog ***** wouldn't like that and there's no alternator ***** to complain about being hijacked) they labelled the "Alternator" light "Choke" instead of "Alternator".
The most amusing thing about it, is that for a number of years, even the cars (Crossfire and early TPI for example) that didn't even have a choke, still had their "Alt" warning lihgt labelled "Choke".
Replace your alternator.

The choke light is supposed to be on when the key is in the on position and the engine isn't running.

For how long? Sometimes it'll stay on for a few seconds until the engine comes up to speed.

yea you guys were right it was the alternator, the two wires that are held on by a nut on the back of the alternator were off, that was causeing my choke to stay open all the time and my battery to barely charge.
